Surely he deserves his own thread after getting his PL debut?

Been talked about a lot in the youth thread of course, so I'm not going to try to re-invent the wheel by praising his obvious talent right now... :)

Great to see Poch believe in him and thought he did well in his little cameo. Calm on the ball and did his job. Just a shame he didn't manage to properly twunt that shot he got...

As you're all super-awesome at predictions... ;)

-When will he get his start in a cup game?
-When will he get his first league start?

FA Cup 3rd Round at home to someone glamorous like Rochdale or Sclamhorpe.

Not this season.

Sclamhorpe :)

I've not worked through the figures, but if we're guaranteed top spot before playing our last Europa League tie, he might get a start. Or even if we're guaranteed second, with no chance of first.

League...yeah, not this season. Unless we win the league with a game or two to spare!

But what I really want to know...is whether the "mahna mahna" song for his name will catch on. You know, the one from the Muppets.

let's hope so

I've only seen him twice, but he looks a real talent.

I'd be interested to see what position he ends up playing in, as he seems more a driving ACM rather than a creative one/#10 per se. I.e. if like Mason and Alli before him he'll end up being used more as a CM because of his physical attributes

He is often described as being similar in style to Pogba and while I do see some similarities in their style of play, I think that Onomah has to start to try to properly impose himself on games as from what I have seen of him (at levels below the first team) he has a tendency to coast a little bit and rely on his talent as opposed to really applying himself.

For the time being I think he will get the occasional cameo appearance as sub, not need to rush him especially with the injurys clearing up.

We were rocking for about 10 minutes yesterday after they made it 2:1 and it says something about his potential that Poch saw fit to bring him on ahead of more experienced players on the bench

Yeah. Part of why I asked. It wasn't just throwing him on when a game was won for a couple of minutes for "the experience". He was thrown in pretty much at the deep end when the pressure was properly on.

If he's ready to come on as a sub in a game hanging in the balance like that surely he can't be far off starting a EL game even if it is one with some pressure on us to perform? Remember too that he came on as a sub against Anderlecht after they had made it 2-1 and we were clearly looking for an equalizer.

I might be overly optimistic about young players, but I think there's a chance he starts against Anderlecht on Thursday.

Not sure he is remotely close to starting in midfield at the moment unless we are massacred by injuries, maybe more sub appearances

He played against Burnley in the cup for a half last season as memory serves (I was there but had been served hahaha)...silky, smooth, confident, his appearance over Andros was a defining moment. Poch knows this squad. he knows what he wants. he trusts youth. And it was paid back in spades last night, as the lad hd a fine appearance, helped steady the ship and allowed Lamela to progress to the role of 'senior statesman' as I think he seemed to take on a whole new vote of 'leader' when the lad came on. Wonderful. All of it.

if jenas reminds people of alli can onomah remind me of pogba or is that politically incorrect?

Not in the league anyway

Yeah. Most likely the way to get a league start will have to be to impress in the EL first. As was the case with Kane and Mason before him.

Just thinking that he might just put in a good EL performance or two sooner rather than later if given the chance considering how he did against Villa.

With fixture congestion and Pochettino's almost extreme trust in young players... I would say he's at least remotely close ;)

Yeah, shows a lot of trust. Also shows the confidence Pochettino has in his plan and his decisions. Had we let in a goal after the 18 year old came on people would have been quick to point the finger towards Pochettino. The "safe" option was there on the bench either in Fazio an extra centre back or dm to deal with long balls. Or in bringing Trippier on as a winger to help give protection to Walker. The choice to go with skill on the ball, movement and youth instead and just get hold of the ball and keep it was a good brave decision by Poch.
