Transfer Rumour Thread

Because some nobs on MOTD said Kane is not an out and out striker it has stuck with some. But he can play either role - behind the striker or playing on the last man. He doesn't have the blistering pace of NJ, hence why Poch has tried dropping Kane back at the end of games with NJ up top able to sprint into space.

I take it Kane is on England duty then? In other news...

Tottenham closely monitoring Gent’s Laurent Depoitre ahead of January transfer, says former player

Tottenham are closely monitoring Gent’s Laurent Depoitre ahead of a potential transfer, according to the club’s former player Frederic Herpoel.

Depoitre, 27, has found the net 80 times in Belgium since 2007 and it appears his goal-scoring exploits have caught the attention of the north London side.

And it seems the highly-rated forward may be in line for a move to the Premier League, with ex-Gent goalkeeper Herpoel suggesting Spurs is the likely destination.

‘Depoitre, I think he will soon leave Gent,’ Herpoel said. ‘I do not know if it will be for January, but in any case I think he will go to Tottenham in England.

‘He will remain at Gent for the remaining months, but then he will make his choice.

‘He has no offer, but I know that Tottenham are closely following him.’

So sounds like he's a striker and scores 10 goals a year and we're signing him for those goal scoring exploits?... In the Belgium league! I'll eat my hat.....

Here you go.

Tottenham line up January move for 'new Eden Hazard' Sofiane Boufal

Tottenham are following the progress of Lille playmaker Sofiane Boufal, who has been described as the natural successor to Eden Hazard.

Hazard’s sparkling form with Lille brought him to the attention of Chelsea three years ago, and he has since established himself as one of the best attacking players in Europe.

Tottenham were interested in Hazard before he chose to move to Stamford Bridge and Standard Sport understands they have regularly scouted Boufal, 22, who has made eight league appearances for Lille this season, scoring three times.

Boufal’s strengths are his close control, speed and ability to run with the ball. Although his decision-making needs to improve, Lille captain Rio Mavuba can see clear comparisons with Hazard. He said: “He reminds me of Eden when he was playing here. It is striking, he likes the ball, even if he plays too much sometimes. But he is young, you have to let him grow.”

Boufal joined Lille less than a year ago from Angers, who were then playing in Ligue 2, the French equivalent of the Championship. He signed his first professional contract only two years ago but he has already been capped by Morocco at senior level.

Since Paul Mitchell took over as Tottenham’s head of recruitment and analysis last November, Spurs have paid close attention to the French market. They signed Clinton N’Jie from Lyon during the closing days of the summer transfer window, and also bid for Anthony Martial, who eventually joined Manchester United from Monaco for £36million.

The fee for Martial is likely to inflate the French market when clubs are allowed to trade again in January, meaning the £12million offer Spurs were considering for Boufal in August would probably be rejected.

Lille look certain to make a significant profit on the player, who cost only £3million when he joined in January 2015.

I don't think we'll be looking to bring anyone in in January.

Perhaps just an academy aged striker to replace Azzaoui

I would like an out and out striker, if we could get rid of Dembele and Fazio maybe a couple to replace them, but I do like the whole idea of waiting to get the right targets even if it means we are slightly short at times.

I'd be happy to back Njie, Onomah and Veljkovic for those 3 roles, at least for the rest of this season (plus Winks to replace Carroll)

I could see us picking up some good young players to supplement our home grown players if the right ones are available

You think Veljkovic has a future with us?

I dont mind what your proposing at all, my little wish is that we went after some of the most promising players in Europe and sweetened the deal by loaning them back to their current clubs for the remainder of the season. I would like us to sign Embolo and also Tielemans in January.

Do love the route Poch and the club are taking by taking a chance on the youth.

I think a classic number 9 is an option we need. Someone you can play it in to with his back to goal. Like a Zamora type. Not to start games but in the squad at least.

I think if we're in the thick of it come January, say sitting in 3rd or 4th spot, we might splash some cash for a good player to make a push for top 4 and EL.

I think we know roughly who our first three are behind Kane and we have a decent impact option like N'jie. Pritchard is probably the closest like for like swap with regards to style and we have Chadli who can also fulfill a different type of role. Mason and Dembele are players who can also spend time in that trio too.

In January all we need to do imo is sell some players like Townsend and Carroll and bring in that backup #9. Embolo was mentionned a lot previously and he really would give us something we need. I can see all our future attacking needs in the next few years being covered by up-coming youth players (Oduwa, Ward, Onomah and then further down the chain to players like Edwards).

Luton .... zamora really? We are not looking to go backwards and I'd suggest we but players that can push the first team not just to occupy the bench. We need that bench full of eager hungry younger players that are desperate to play.

Lol he said a Zamora type, not Zamora! And I agree that kind of player who can be a creative target man could create a lot of opportunities for our attacking players who aren't that great in the air.

Who are you saying Pritchard is the closest like for like in this? If you mean N'jie I wouldn't agree with that at all but I may have misunderstood the post!

Eider back in on loan to steady the ship would do me fine.

Velijovic is apparently just having a contract stand-off. I reckon if that gets sorted before the January window we could sell Fazio and promote him into the 25. Being a CB-DM, he'd be ideal cover for Dier

You know Embolo and Tielemans would cost £30m and £20m respectively? We are already too late on them - they are already out of our league. And even if we managed to sell Fazio, Dembele and Carroll, we'd still be pushing it to raise the sort of cash for one of them.

So basically you want a 'crap Kane'?

Personally I'd rather have two versatile forwards who can do a job up there (Son and Njie), than buy a 'CF Vorm' (which they'd become with Kane, like Lloris, being such an unquestionable #1).

That never happens. Even in 2011/12.

We are already out of one cup, so we know we won't be competing on 4 fronts again. If anything we usually tend to trim the squad in January, which is why I think 2-3 will leave and no first team squad players will come in.

I see our front 8 as something like this (appreciating Son and Njie will probably play the other way around in the absence of Kane)

---------------------Kane
---------------------Njie

Son---------------Eriksen----------Lamela
Chadli--------------Pritchard-------Townsend

I really like that blend and balance. Enough smart players, enough quick players and enough powerful players
