Hopefully that confirms we'll never have to see Kaboul or Chiriches in a Spurs shirt again.

I think Verts, Fazio, Dier and Wimmer is a nice blend of CBs actually - power, pace, ballplayers, experience and youth.

brilliant buy. made the effort to watch koln since linked in January and he looks brilliant. Absolute rock at the back, great build for a centre back, no nonsense, yet very good on the ball. Like a better Vertonghen.

Has there ever been a half decent Austrian footballer ......

Welcome Kevin )))

So is this a Levy, Poch, Baldini or Mitchell signing? It can only be one of them and at least three of the others didn't want him.

Agreed. A good 4 to chose from and with some younger players in Veljkovic and Carter-Vickers coming up through the ranks.

Probably in an emergency Bentaleb can fill in at centre back as he's awesome at absolutely everything... ;)

Cheers Mumorn. Haven't had the chance to watch him myself unfortunately. Hoping that us going for him this early means that we're confident he's who we want.

Alex Manninger is actually the only other Austrian footballer I can name!

Never seen him, never heard of him.

Just thought I'd get that out there.

I think the same was true for most people with Dier 12 months ago, and that worked out alright.

I have much more confident in our hidden gems signings now that Baldini has assembled a proper scouting and analysis infrastructure again. No more agent-led signings.

You're slightly more confident than me. One season of top flight football makes me a little nervous. Also, I'd have to question the Vertonghen comparison; he's certainly known as more of a tryer than a natural talent. Its his work ethic and willingness to learn/develop that draws praise from from Peter Stöger.

Just reading through a thread on the Köln boards. Some think he won't be good enough to get a game, others think he will but that he's not good enough yet but that he has loads of potential.

All of them are praising his efforts for the club and highlighting how much he's improved. I think this is what impresses people most about him, and probably what we've taken a punt on.

I've been thinking about Mumorns post a bit. He did look solid at Köln, but they are THE most negative team in the league. They set up for 0-0's even at home and Stöger is an excellent defensive coach. I'm worried that the extra quality he is going to face and the more open style we play is going to be very, very challenging for him.
