Android Box

Happy with it I guess? I see a lot of unhappy customers on Amazon giving it the old one star treatment.

Mine is brilliant, not had any connectivity issues, but then again I am tech savvy, a lot of these guys may not be. All of the boxes seem to have the same hardware to me with a some tweaks to the setup.

If you don't mind installing Kodi (XBMC) and all the add-ons yourself, the value option is still the Amazon FireTV. Very powerful hardware, heavily subsidised.

In fact, the FireTV Stick seems to run most of the add-ons as far as I can tell and that's even cheaper.

Do you have to do any jailbreaking type things or can Kodi go straight on off the shelf?

No jailbreak, you just need to sideload it from a pc. Can't make it boot straight into Kodi but I can't imagine why you'd want to anyway.
Sounds good. What does sideload it from a PC mean?

Edit: Actually I can guess. Installing an app not directly from the amazon store or something like that. Right?

Cheers for the heads up - I got a fire TV stick for £19 as a prime member and was just using it to watch Amazon/ Netflix while I'm staying in hotels but it looks like it could be a lot more useful than that...

Everything you need should be here.

I think I'll be buying the full box as I want the bluetooth headphone functionality but otherwise the stick looks like a really good deal.

This one is £40 and comes pre loaded with Kodi.

This is the keyboard I use, makes it easier to add repositories etc..

Ta, I was just reading their other guide - your link looks a lot less full of waffle! Im gutted i didn't take advantage of the huge discount they offered me on the full box. I figured it wouldn't be worth it over the chromecast but the TV stick has changed my mind on that, it's a much, much better device for 90% of the time.

I've got my spare mac mini hooked up to the big screen, so wacked XBMC and Droidsticks on recently (£40 for s/ware only). Pretty good, but its really hit and miss when you get HD sometimes!!

Can only get DD5.1 very rarely as well - anyone got any previous or tips on that as[ect of all this malark please?

Got an Amazon fire stick running with Kodi couple of days back. There was a bit of setup involved but well worth it. Absolutely the best £25 I've spent.

Thanks to everyone for the advice in this thread.

Where did you buy the Fire stick?

Everywhere i have been looking the past week is out of stock

amazon.co.uk a couple of weeks back. They had the price knocked down to £25 so it's probably not surprising that they sold out.
