Nothing really. Most people want something that's hooked up to their TV permanently though which tends to rule out a PC.

Really? I suppose there's the added bonus of a remote control too which I'd assume is gonna be more convenient than an infrared mouse...
Think I'll test run it on my PC then and see how I get on with it.

If you're using XBMC you can get Android/IOS remotes for them that work over wifi. I don't even bother with an infra-red remote now - my TV goes to standby after 15 mins and it wakes up when the PC does.
That means I can leave my PC and surround amp in the cellar where it's nice and cool and I don't have to hear disks spinning up all the time.
Next step though is to buy a Synology NAS. I'm ditching the PC all together and putting a NAS in the cellar with either a FireTV or a Raspberry Pi by the tv. The only thing I'll lose is Sky Sports as it requires Silverlight (therefore Windows) but I watch it so little now that it's next to pointless.
That means I can leave my PC and surround amp in the cellar where it's nice and cool and I don't have to hear disks spinning up all the time.

i have bought more than 5 for friends and family, mainly due to people not having ebay access, or getting the right type.
My exerience has been excellent, as has the transactions for the majority of their buyers ~99.x% for a hell of a high number of transactions.
All of my purchases have been through truckers_gps, who are part of juggling frogs.
Unless you are a cretin, they are fool-proof, since they provide a full restore option. The probability of getting 5 boxes that have hardware or filrmware failures is extremely low!

I downloaded an app for my S4. Not used it much, had it working though, just worked through the router, as have an MX box.
The Rasberry Pi 2 was announced yesterday, with Microsoft saying they’re going to release a free version of Windows 10 for it, so you could get Silverlight that way. Although the compromises that would probably come from running windows probably wouldn’t be worth it!

The new Raspberry Pi 2 announced yesterday is retailing at £25-£30 - is probably powerful enough to do the job.
I use a Model B running RaspBMC upstairs to get live tv and my Movie/TV database - that's more than enough to do 1080p. My concern about the new model is that it uses the same GPU - that may not be enough for 4K although it will probably decrease the lag without having to overclock.
Plus, if you take the price of of RP2, add that of a power adaptor, case, high speed card, etc. you probably end up around £50. Add FLIRC and a remote and you're at £70. I think the hardware in a FireTV box is massively superior for a similar price and it comes with the app store for all the non-XBMC stuff.
Like I said above, I'll miss getting Sky Sports over IE/Chrome but it's something I can live without - I'll probably just watch it on my tablet instead.
When the fire TV first came out it was only £45 for prime members so I do regret not getting one at that price!

Same here! Got the talk talk you view box and it's absolute turd. Much like their internet service....
That's incredible - they're clearly selling it at a loss at the current price too!
Tell me about it,I'm stuck with talktalk for the foreseeable future but I just use the 4G on my phone for everything as it's faster and more reliable.
Yep, it was some sort of 48h presale offer. I was pretty set on taking advantage but I got distracted mid-purchase and never checked out in time!

Unfortunately I'm with giffgaff on my moby so my internet service suffers from all directions (talk talk wifi, giffgaff phone, O2 iPad - also sporadically poor).
Will change IP this year if financially viable, otherwise as far as I'm concerned it's a first world problem
I didn't really look into it, just remember it being advertised - think I already had appleTV by that point too which I only really use for playing music remotely of watching footy on bbc/itv player because my TV signal has been useless since they built a wind farm down the road and the digital switchover...
Stuck XBMC on my tablet and use AllCast to stream to TV/Chromecast. Works a dream for films and series, live sport is a little hit and miss, but i have premier league pass for the football. Interface is perfect for touch screens, cheap tablet and a Chromecast is an option
How did you manage to keep PLP? They detected I was in the UK and killed my account.

Looks like you got lucky (or they're not scanning for Austrian IPs). I got every match last year but they killed it this year before September was out.
