*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea *** OMT

looking back, we looked so much faster across the pitch, especially in attack. i mean chadli, kane both looked superfast ... i know speed is relative but what gives ? chelsea aren't a slow team. or was it an older team fatigued through fixture congestion versus a younger team with fresher legs through better rotation ?

I don't think Kane is that fast, but Chadli is quick. It seems many here don't think so, don't know why - maybe it's because he's physically bigger than your traditional winger and so his pace is more deceptive, but he is quick....

Re: *** Tottenham Hotspur vs Chel53a *** OMT

we were completely dumbfounded by a quick free kick with as you say literally nobody defending the right side, a complete loss of focus.

Note that Walker was not caught out by the quick freekick. Vertonghen gave away the freekick and was out of position; when Chelsea got behind the defence and were through on goal Walker ran over from right back to left back (near post) to block the shot... but they squared it to Terry.

I agree that Fazio was stupid to try and dribble past Fabregas and Hazard, his touch was heavy and that was the moment to just get rid of it, last man versus those two!

That was one player switched on but most had their backs turned. It was just such a cheap goal and the loss of concentration reminded me of the Saudi Sportswashing Machine goal virtually from the kick off earlier in the season. The Fazio mistake, I guess playing such a high line will happen but again maybe harsh but I thought he was a bit slow in getting back, perhaps he was caught in a moment of disappointment in making a bad mistake. I don't want to pick on the guy as he was very good apart from that.

Looked like he wasn't expecting the pass following Dembele's pirouette. Should have of course, but as so often he gives the impression of a talented player still adapting to the intensity of the PL.

A few more months and what a player we'll have.

Agreed, it is great to have a guy that you know will dominate in the air. Verts was saying earlier how important it was to have a settled central pairing so that they can learn each others movement and style. Because of their combined lack of pace this is even more important.

Would agree its something we have lacked for years, a CB who will win most balls in the air.

First time I saw him I thought he had the physique of a sprinter, he's not explosive but he can keep going, a 200m runner as opposed to 100m sprinter might be good comparison.

better than good, but certainly a surprise, i guess now poch needs to make this a new standard and repeatable performance, not just a one-off...

Watched the game again and what a joy. Nit a perfect performance but boy dud we stuck it up em in the end.

We wont get this every week- most teams will sit back and get men behind the ball, but at least we proved we can go toe to toe with the big boys. Just got to avenge the bin dippers now!

Just wanted to ask: when Kane was getting kicked by Cahill did any of our team notice and get in Cahill's face for it? Or complain to the ref?

Did it seem like anyone put a reducer later on any of the Chelsea players (particularly Cahill) in retaliation??

Please don't tell me that like away at City 3 years ago, one of our players witnessed it and didn't say/do anything (a la Luka when Parker got studded in the face!)

Completely agree on the third goal, I said the same in the vertonghen thread, I was livid at that pathetic mindset in such an important game. We still have the odd mentality issue unfortunately, but hopefully Poch suitably embarrassed those involved in the team meeting.

Overall a fantastic performance though.

And then there was no further sanction from the league on Cahill! I also think he should have got a yellow for his tackle on Rose when Rose scored and also a yellow for the penalty. So that would be two yellows AND a red. Chelsea mostly get away with murder at our pace (unless it's John Terry(.

So....did any of our players react to Chaill's kick out/stamp on Kane?

Paulinho and Chadli were nearest to the scene ..Paul picked up the ball to claim the throw and Chadli whilst looking on at Kane, had his arm grabbed by Poch to issue him instructions. There were no handbags by our players or our bench. Would've been mayhem if the roles were reversed I'm sure.

We reacted one minute later with our fifth goal, after a Kane/Chadli combo .

I will admit I was kind of ticked that Paulinho didn't stand up for him after the fact he actually gave Cahill a pat on the back. Granted in that moment we were well ahead and no need to get someone sent off but still someone should have at least had some words for Cahill.

In Cahill's defense it was a childish and dumb thing to kick Kane but he immediately went and apologised and made sure Kane was OK. Not justifying him but it made it look better. Mourinho on the other hand was asking for a throw in the ****
