*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea *** OMT

Re: *** Tottenham Hotspur vs Chel53a *** OMT

This is the kind of win that will boost the confidence of the whole team. Really happy that we managed to score 5 goals and beat the title-chasing Chel53a. It was nice to get our first win over Chel53a in 4 years. But we still need to improve our defending as we almost let Chel53a get back into the match. It was nice to score 5 but to concede 3 goals at home is not good. It gave us unncecessary tension until the match was over.

Surely, Kane was the man-of-the match as he scored 2 great goals, won a penalty and had an assist. Kane is really on great form now. To score 2 great goals against teams like Chel53a will surely boost his confidence further. And both his goals were scored at a crucial time for us. We started well but were unable to trouble Chel53a. We then conceded a soft goal and were struggling to get back into the match. And then Kane came up with that wonder goal out of nothing. It was a top quality individual goal as he dribbled past almost the entire Chel53a defence to score. It was not a powerfull shot but was well-placed beyond the goalie. Then just when Chel53a was trying to start the 2nd hall strongly, Kane scored another top quality goal. It was a nice turn and shot which again beat the goalie. He also did well to win the penalty for our 3rd goal and created the chance for Chadli. Kane has now scored 17 goals, 7 in the league so far this season. Hope he can go on to score more than 10-15 league goals.

Credit also to Chadli, Rose and Townsend for scoring the other goals. In fact, Chadli did well to score 1 and assist 2 goals. It was nice to see Chadli playing so well against Chel53a. He was unlucky not to score when his shot his the post from which Rose scored. But he did well to create the chance for Kane's 2nd goal and then scored the 5th himself. It was a crucial goal by Chadli as Chel53a was putting pressure on us after scoring their 2nd goal. Rose also did well to score the rebound as he was under pressure by the Chel53a defence. Townsend did well to score the penalty but I still don't like him taking our penalties. He is not even a regular for us. Kane as the striker in great form should have taken the penalty.

Thought our midfield did well in this match. Was worried when we started Bentaleb-Mason in midfield. Thought we would be outplayed by Chel53a's midfield. But when Dembele replaced Mason so early in the match, started to feel better as Dembele went on to have a good match. Eriksen didn't score or assist any goals but he did well to create the chance for our crucial 2nd goal. He did well to dribble past the Chel53a midfield to create the chance for Chadli from which Rose scored.

Despite the win, was disappointed by the way we conceded the 3 goals. Our defence were too slow to react for their first goal. Fazio were at fault for stupidly giving away the ball for their 2nd goal. It was a stupid mistake by Fazio. We were comfortable at 4-1 and Chel53a didn't look like coming back into the match. But that goal almost changed all that. This is why I always hate it when our defenders try to be clever by dribbling out of defence, especially against big teams like Chel53a. We could have finished this match comfortably if we had not conceded that goal. And it was disappointing no one covered Terry for their 3rd goal. Fortunately it was too late for Chel53a to come back after that. Hope Pochettino will do something to improve our defending.

It is a great feeling to beat Chel53a for the first time in 4 years. Hope we will be boosted by this win to go on to do well in the coming matches. Just imagine, we could be fighting for the league title if we had not wasted so many points at home earlier in the season.

I was at the Lane and it was a long time I didnt enjoy a day at the Lane like that one.

First of all, I did believe before the game that we would have a chance and I was optimistic. Having seen Chelsea play in the last few games, they did look tired and with Mourinho not rotating enough, it was a perfect time to play them at right end of a busy schedule.

But take nothing away from our players, they were sublime on Sunday. And the football was a joy to watch. We started the game well and I had a good feeling, Rose and Walker impressive early on and some nice passing between Eriksen, Bentaleb and Chadli.

They had one chance and scored, hazards quality the difference. At that point you're thinking, this could get awful! There was about 5 minutes when you felt they would score a 2nd and kill the game.

Then Harry Kane's goal came and from then on nothing stopped us. We were agressive, always nagging them, and all over them. Some of the passing was the best I have seen for years.

Two things:
-Our passing, neat tidy, pacey, towards goal and with quality again. Eriksen had shades of Modric all game long, from the stands I felt like watching Modric all over again
- And the physical side of our game and this is what pleases me even more, bentaleb always chasing, chadli powerful, Kane running everywhere, fazio and vertonghen very strong in the air, dembele a beast, walker and rose putting a challenge in. How good was that!

I see a lot of negative things about Andros Townsend but whether you like it or not he is the one who can probably go the furthest in that squad, he ran at Chelsea in the first 20 minutes and that set the tone. He has to pass the ball more but I can see improvements. Miles ahead of Aaron Lennon anyway.

And what about Harry Kane, you just feel he is already the leader in that dressing room, things go quickly when you work had and boy does he! A breath of fresh air for the club and the fans at the minutes. Listening to him at the end of the game, and he seems so mature.

I felt a bit like watching the team of 2010, so good going forward, with Eriksen as a Modric and Kane a bit like Bale as the young gun who can do anything.

Atmosphere was good so a great day all round!

Fair play to the sky pundits, especially Le Tissier who essentially said that the FA are crooked and don't punish the national team players. Merson owned up to getting it wrong and they all praised Poch and the players. Probably spent a bit more time than was necessary talking about Mourinho and Chelsea, but then that's how it goes when the best team in the league lose.

Still all massive cretins though, they are an embarassment at times, especially Merson, Nicholas and Thompson its like they are 12 year olds wishing for their teams to win their rivals to get smashed

This, I would really like to compare Merson's pre game forecast for us, vs. the last couple of times Chel53a played a relegation place team, and show it to his bosses .. cringworthy ..

Yep. I stopped watching these gob****es years ago. There isn't one among them worth listening to. Not one of them can add a single thing to your knowledge of the game. All it is football cliché after cliché and most of it dripping in bias. Save your time (and use it wisely posting on here ;))

Lol and i thought we over reacted after a loss, this made me chuckle no end

Watching the Sky pundits making arseholes of themselves is where the real entertainment lies. Le Tiss is the perfect foil, someone who gives a measured opinion, accentuating what contemptible nincompoops the rest are.

Great fun.

Agree very much with this. The second goal I can actually live with because it happens when defenders are trying to play the ball out instead of hoofing up the pitch. The first and third goal though are just down to rank bad defending nothing to do with the high line or over playing at the back. For the First, our defence stood around like statues expecting a flag and the third was particularly disappointing in that whole right side was left undefended. Giving away cheap goals like that will cost us and it highlights why our goal difference is poor again this season. I could see Poch was very unhappy at the concession of the goals especially the third goal.

I saw this very interesting tactical analysis on the game. Good stuff although a little harsh on Dembele who was probably instructed to "hang back" first half.

Yeah its precisely because Skysports have essentially filled up their panel full of essentially irrational fans who just happen to have earned a living from football that makes Soccer Saturday such good TV.

Thinking about it, Merson's pre-game rant in his column is kind of refreshing. The guy's a gooner, he hates us, he hopes to GHod we get smashed every time we play and he can't hide it. Really, that's what being a football fan in this country is all about and Sky Sports, rather than bring us anything insightful, merely bring along a massive mirror for us to all see our hopes, fears and irrational hatreds and hero-worships played out on screen.

I love Sky Sports News and Gilette Soccer Saturday. It's pure trash football TV. If my Mrs has a day off work, she watches Jeremy Kyle. I stick SSN on.

He double hates us, as I jave heard he's a Chelsea fan, or was, as a youngster, lololol

Just watched the highlights again, oh the Joy.

It would have been much better if we had not conceded the 3rd goal. I would have preferred a 3-1 or even a 4-2 score. To concede 3 goals at home only shows how poor our defence are, regardless of how many we score. Would have enjoyed more if we had not conceded that 3rd goal.

Oh dear 7891. Do you have to?

Lighten up old boy. We won. We crushed the might of Chel53a. They were top of the League and we put five past them. when was the last time we did that to ANY team at the top? It was among our top six stand-out PL victories ever.

Enjoy the moment, it may not come along again for a little while.

I guess so. But can't help but worried we might get complacent and struggle in our coming matches instead.

looking back, we looked so much faster across the pitch, especially in attack. i mean chadli, kane both looked superfast ... i know speed is relative but what gives ? chelsea aren't a slow team. or was it an older team fatigued through fixture congestion versus a younger team with fresher legs through better rotation ?

We were quite naive at times, for eg not playing the ball out to get back to 11 before the Mason change, trying to go for another goal even into injury time until Chadli finally went to the corner and mostly in the first 30 mins we were horribly wasteful in possession. The 2nd and 3rd goals were comical defending, we were completely dumbfounded by a quick free kick with as you say literally nobody defending the right side, a complete loss of focus.Fazio was really poor after being caught in possession, he was so slow in trying to get back. Even the first, Dembele just stops and holds his hands up looking for a throw, leaving Hazard one on one with Rose. It was a fantastic win but Poch will know there were major issues with defending and we will not score 5 every game to cover this up.

To be fair though Hazard was completely unplayable, he had one of the best matches of any opposition player to come to WHL in recent times and Costa is a handful for any defence.

Chelsea's attacking players all had very good games and any defence in the world would have struggled against them. The fact that we comprehensively beat them while their attacking players shone, makes our performance all the more impressive.
