Il Tempo understand Franco Baldini has agreed a deal for PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot to join Tottenham.

II Tempo claim Rabiot's agent (his mother) has agreed a contract and PSG are happy with the fee they will receive from

II Tempo: "It seemed done with Rome but Rabiot preferred the Spurs, will arrive in London in January equipped with European passport."

I don't know much about him, but heard about him and had a look around for whatever information I could quickly find:

Supposedly very talented, but not getting much game time at PSG due to their signing spree(s). Just one league start, one league sub appearance and one CL start so far this season (whoscored.com). Contract until 2019 according to transfermarkt, but might not be super expensive if he wants away and PSG are happy to sell. I remember he was linked away in January too.

Listed as a central and defensive midfielder.

I hope this is the end of dembele, capoue and Paulinho.

not seen much of him admittedly, but from clips here and there he looks like a tidy passer, still only 19 years old, 6 ft 2, great hair.. maybe he'll be a player who Poch feels could come in and grow into a Schneiderlin? He was close to signing for Roma in the past (much like Yedlin) so perhaps this is more Baldini, which im happy with as these are the sort of players he should be looking to bring in.

Could be. Then again it could also just be an agent (/his mother) trying to get his name out there to generate interest. :)

I haven't seen him either (to be clear).

I suppose it's "the other option" to signing a Schneiderlin or Cabaye. Trust Mason and Bentaleb to continue being good enough and develop and bring in another youngster to compete with them for the proper passing roles in central midfield.

Baldini secures surprise transfer for Tottenham, player's mother agrees contract

Rome newspaper Il Tempo have something of a surprising story and claim on Tuesday. They state that Franco Baldini is still chasing targets for Tottenham which he'd identified whilst employed by AS Roma, there's clearly a little irritation there. Baldini is said to have been working with Roma to identify and then secure young talent and now he's approaching the same targets for Tottenham.

The specific target mentioned is Adrien Rabiot. AS Roma thought they had a deal for the young French midfielder tied up recently, but then he unexpectedly signed a renewal with his current club PSG. That was that, so everyone thought. Rabiot would be remaining at PSG and all the fall outs of the past would be forgotten.

Apparently, the renewal is now being seen as a way to get PSG a transfer fee. Rabiot's contract would have run out in June and PSG were furious that they stood to lose a young player for nothing, especially given their battles with FFP.

Il Tempo say that Baldini has agreed a deal which pleases player, PSG, and of course Tottenham. Terms have been agreed with Rabiot's mother Veronique, Il Tempo clearly state that she has reached agreement with the Premier League club.

PSG are said to be happy because they'll reinvest the transfer fee in buying players and Rabiot believes he'll get a bigger role at Tottenham than he has at PSG.

Looks a good prospect, but I wanted someone with a bit more experience. Our long term midfield will be Mason, Bentaleb, Stambouli and Rabiot. Personally I worry for Bentaleb, the lad needs game time and he's now gonna be fighting a similar type of player for games.

Bentaleb will probably get more games competing with another young player like Rabiot than if we sign someone more experienced.

I just hope if this is true, it's not the beginning of a 'special relationship' with PSG ... Their manager Blanc, has eyes on our little Dane.

I don't know much about this fella other than that he's a defensive or box to box midfielder and highly rated.

But it does concern me a little if we're signing a 19 year old in that position. We already have Mason and Bentaleb. And Harry Winks and Milos Veljkovic also play a similar role. One or two other good prospects coming through in that position too - Filip Lesniak and Anton Walkes to name two.

I would hate for any of that lot's development to be stalled as a result of us once again having a bloated first team squad. If we are to import players, I hope that they are either the finished article and ready to step straight into the team or that they have so much potential that they are a certainty to become top players.

If they are neither of the above, then I would rather that we make space for our excellent academy to prove its worth.

Pretty much this. As for this Rabiot character, three questions:

1) didn't the press mention some attitude problems he had back in the summer?

2) how's his pressing, his tackling, his work-rate? That video just showed goals and assists, and for a DM those attributes are probably lower on my list than attributes pertaining to defensive nous.

3) If this transfer goes through, then will everyone (including you, braine) finally accept that we're done with regard to Schneiderlin, that we won't pay what he's worth and that he won't come to us now anyway? :p

Signed a new contract with PSG on November 1st would be suprised if he was to leave so soon after signing new deal. Would love him tho think he's gonna be a big player here's hoping it's true.

I think that sportingwitness article above might be correct and that the new contract was more about getting PSG a fee.

He wanted away because he wasn't getting games going by reports. I don't get why he would sign a contract until 2019 if he was going to continue not getting games and being frustrated about it. Might be a release clause, or some gentleman's agreement going on.

4 players for 2 positions is optimum. Getting rid of clutter like Capoue, Dembele and Paulinho will benefit Bentaleb.

The French league is so uncompetitive that it will always be a step down for any ambitious player. Going to PSG would almost be like moving back to Ajax for him

You were sucking off Capoue and Paulinho 12 months ago mate, what happened?

I'm not sure about Rabiot as I've not really watched his games but I did read somewhere his available at around £5m as his contract is nearly up so it's not a risk buy . Will annoy Wenger too .

With you on that , I'd be surprised if Eriksen went there but I wouldn't totally discount the possibility .

How often have rumours come out of Italy that we have "agreed a deal to sign x player" only for them to be false? Surely the Italian rumour mill has to be the least reliable around.

Also, haven't Arsenal been tracking this guy? Smells of BS/agents trying to force Arsenal or other CL clubs to stump up more cash to me...
