Rik Mayall R.I.P.

flipping hell that is no age, loved watching him growing up. Something wrong when people just a few years older start dropping off.

Gutted. Young ones and Bottom gave me endless laughs growing up. The university challenge episode was something else.

Shocked. Was there any word of illness, etc?

My older brothers loved The Young Ones. I was probably too young to get the jokes but Rick and Vivian always made me laugh.

He was badly hurt in a quad bike accident 15 years ago, which left him in a coma for a while. Unsure whether he fully recovered.

The live performances of Bottom in the mid-90's were beyond funny. I don't remember having cried laughing like that since.

RIP to a true comedy legend.

Agree about the bottom live recordings, one video I could watch over again.
Flasheart in blackadder stole every scene he was in.

Saddening news indeed.

This. I always remember a scene where Rik dried and both he and Ade absolutely hammed it up unscripted for ten minutes. "Avin a WAAAAANK.." RIP fella

Pretty much all that's been said.

Bottom live. Mid 1990's. I laughed so much it hurt! Then the end.... thunderflashes go off and a big backdrop falls, with just two large words on it...

**** Off!

Very Rick 'n' Ade.

Watch the YouTube clip. 7 minutes in. Classic! "Vyvyan, where did you get that howitzer...."

Young Ones. Filthy Rich and Catflap. Bottom. Comic Strip. The New Statesman. Kevin Turvey. The Dangerous Brothers. Not a dud there.

Plus little known gems Rick Mayall Presents Well worth a view. Dancing Queen was superb. So was Briefest Encounter. Clever, witty, original.

Mayall could really act, too. He was superb in The Bill.

RIP The People's Poet. What a sad loss......

Stumbled on the Young Ones by accident and was mesmerized, had seen nothing like it. Stood comedic convention on it's head and was as edgy as could be. The great thing was picking up little details missed when you watched repeats. Rik was the one of the most memorable comedic characters of all time, but it was such a strong ensemble cast. Very upset to hear of his passing. My ex missus cried.

grew up watching him, from young ones to filthy rich and catflap to bottom, and of course his influence and "alternative" comedy created a whole new genre and meant we didnt have to watch the likes of bernard manning or morecambe and wise. RIP Rik, thanks for the laughs, you'll be sadly missed.
