Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Oh, and there's a 'let's all hate Spurs' atmosphere around Saints Web. Quite amusing to watch, if only because we have exactly the same kind of collective anguish whenever someone poaches on of our own blokes. :p

My remaining hope now re this is that there's an announcement about Freund and Parks being retained

Ideally, Freund will be given the Youth Development job that Tim had, with Parks retaining his goalkeeping role alongside the new Spanish bloke that MoPo's bringing in. Subject to both of them being amenable to these offers, of course.

South Coast Big Club. Ah, the memories.

I must say, when I first heard his name linked with post, I thought the suggestion that he was even in the running was ludicrous and would feel just totally underwhelmed if it came to pass. However, the more I've heard and read about the guy, the more I warmed to the idea. That may just have been a coping mechanism for the increasingly inevitable, but what's the point in getting yourself exercised over something you have absolutely no control over.

Fact is, he's here now, and unless the beginning of his tenure is a disaster of Ramos-esque proportions circa 2008-9, he's likely to be here for at least the next couple of years. May as well support the man, he's one of us now.

I wonder if the players had a preference. It will be interesting to see who stays and who wants away.

My concern is that he may struggle to to assert his authority -he is young, and his football career is OK but not in the same league as someone like de Boer.
I also worry about the 4-2-3-1 high pressing game - I just hope it will be more exciting than the 4-2-3-1 high pressing game of AVB.

We will need some new players though. We don't have a Lambert, who was central to the way Southampton played -or really a Rodriguez.

If he brings his own goalkeeping coach, I find it hard to see how Parks can have a role with the first team. Two goalkeeping coaches is one too many. I suppose there is room for a move as part of the youth structure but it would be hard to see how it is not considered a demotion.

As with any coach, I'm not expecting him to come here to simply recreate his previous team, but rather get the players we have working together. General aspects of how Southampton played, sure, but not 11 players with exactly the same skill sets.

Wasn't my first choice, but by no means a bad choice. Good football, good team spirit. Good luck

AVB's high pressing game was pretty good to watch initially early in the 2012-2013 season. The problem was that as time went on the pressing seemed to dwindle and eventually just stop all together.

Adebayor is FAR better than Lambert. Lamela should be able to play the same role as Rodriguez.

I have an unhealthy dislike for Spurs

You know, I'm starting to lose count of the number of clubs' supporters who say similar things about us. Okay, Southampton fans' bitterness in this case is perhaps understandable, but what have we done to **** off the rest of footballdom? Are we so unlovable? :(

True, I was thinking more one coach devoted to 'regular' goalkeeping (saves, reflexes, positioning, etcetera) and one devoted to 'tactical' goalkeeping (sweeping, control of the area, defensive organisation, etcetera). Probably one too many cooks though.

After the break on SSN, Jamie Redknapp gives his opinion on Poch's appointment. Prepare yourself for some erudite insights...

I have an unhealthy dislike of Liverpool. They never did anything in particular to **** me off, I just can't stand them.

Echoed!.... He wasn't my first choice, but I will get behind him (as I do all our mangers) and hope more than anything that he proves me wrong.

Now Levy - please give him the tools and, just as importantly, the time to do his job and turn us into a real force befitting of our great club.

Well said. I think that goes for a lot of us.

Not our first choice, but I am sure we will all get behind him. Personally for me, he doesnt have to deliver a top 4 finish or a trophy (but one or both would be a massive bonus), I just want to see us playing good football again, and get that feel-good factor back at the Lane.

Oh yes, and sneak Luke Shaw into your boot on the way out if you can...

Expecting him to be heaping on the pressure. Maybe some negative comments about Levy and the club regarding expectations as well.

The Schneiderlin-interview had me convinced, however stupid that may sound. I think he'll at least get as much time as AVB - I think we have to see more of plan to our game in 1,5 years than what we did with AVB if he's to stay. I hope we will, of course. Good luck, Poch!
