1991

What do we do? Well I don't know what you'll be doing, but I'll crack open a beer and watch some breaking bad.

Since then Arsenal have won the FA Cup 7 times whilst we haven't even managed to reach the final.

What do we do now?

Get some perspective.

There are far worse things about Arsenal and Spurs relative states.

There are also a lot of positives about Spurs current state.

Right now the less focus there is in my life about the gooners cup win, the better.

1991 is schoolboys own stuff, 3-1 and stick your double up your ****. Happy memory but there have been plenty others since.

If that doesnt depress you then wtf! We have let this happen as well, anybody defending Levy because we
are now a top 6 club is having a laugh, our soft belly, roll over and give it to them attitude has caused this.
No balls from top to bottom!

Have you ever looked at our history as a club?!?!

Even around that FA cup win we were a shambles with scholar and the Venables wide boy routine - we are lucky to still exist as a club.

Now we are a stable and established club, something NO other club has achieved (from a similar standing) without a sugar daddy.

The comparisons would be Everton, Saudi Sportswashing Machine and West Ham.
And we are in a better, sustainable, position than all of them

So what we do is carry building, bit by bit. Be stable and try and get 4th. Then build on that.

Yeah the Q wasn't the brightest idea tbf, also hunger as f@ck.

I've been a supporter of this club for 19 years now and during that time I have seen Arsenal:

- Finish above us every single season.
- Win the competition (FA cup) that made me fall in love with the game 5 times
- Win the League 3 times
- Qualify for the CL for 17 years in a row
- Move into arguly the best stadium in the league
- And have the last laugh, constantly.

I feel that I've become used to failure against them to the point whereby today didn't even make me angry or annoyed, as if I was used to it. Deep down inside I can't see us finishing above them, ever. As much as I want it and know that's pretty much just a matter of when I still can't see it happening, especially you consider lasagnagate and the previous two seasons to this one just gone.

I personally think that it isn't all doom and gloom, not as a result of the 'look where we have come' argument but because whilst some think we have peaked I don't, far from it in fact, think we can go alot further than most people think.

It frustrates me as much as any Spurs fan that we haven't had a sniff of the FA cup in that long. But the comparison to Arsenal is a little false IMO.

In the years that Wenger has been there they have gone from regular title winners/challengers to 4th every year. We on the other hand have gone from just about top 10 to challenging for CL qualification.

Based on that, you could argue that they have regressed whilst we've moved forward. We just need to take that very difficult last step now

You support the club and enjoy the good times when they roll around

Don't think you'll find many people disputing the gulf between the clubs in the past 20 years. In the last 4 we should have made more of our squad and first team. We have watched them get better this year while we had an up and down year. But we are rebuilding again and they did ok and were fortunate to have home draws the whole way through (granted, against some decent opposition)

Ramsey is the difference between then being ordinary arsenal of the past few years and this season

1991 indeed...sigh...

I have to say I will miss the 9 years since a trophy riposte we could ALWAYS give them:terry:

However the gap between us has narrowed massively, though you do fear that IF they want to really push now, with their finances and stadium, we may never get as close again for another few years....

We have certainly had a few 'sliding doors' moments:

- 93 FA Semi Final; we wilted in the end but our overall play should have meant we should have been a least a goal up after 60 mins or so. They're late gal had Gooner Graham tactics all over it (and pretty but wilting Spurs as well; though we did just beat them two yeats earlier so maybe that's a bit harsh)

- 95 FA Semi final. Again we bottle it agisnt a workmanlike but solid Northern team

- 95 Summer transfer activity: Jurgen leaves and now Sugar gets the hump and says ;no more Carlos-kickaballs' meanwhile turning down players such as Gullit, possibly Bergkamp as well while they (Chelsea and Arsenal) speculate to accumulate whilst we go from being the fashionable London club that talented foreign start would prefer to join and hand over that mantle to Arsenal and Chelsea..

- 96 to 2001: Sugar buys players only of he's effectively forced to. Runs club as a risk-averse corporate business not in the speculate to accumulate way Arsenal and now Chelsea have done to attract top internationals. Perhaps understandable in the early years when after all he stopped us going bust; but still...

- 1999: Yes we won a league cup; but then we bottle another semi-final vs Saudi Sportswashing Machine...

- Feb 2002: After celebrating our 5-1 league cup semi-final thrashing of Chelski (first victory against them of any sort for 12 years) like we'd won the damn thing, we effectively bottle the final and lose 2-1 to a workmanlike but very effective Blackburn side. Imagine if Hoddle had been able to claim that piece of silverware in that first full season? I don't think he recovered from that point tbh...

- May 2002: a certain team wins the doub......:-&

- Summer 2002: long chase for Morientes ends in failure and start the "we nearly signed" jokes...again how serious were we to try and buy him?

- Summer 2003: buy a few GHod strikers (Kanoute, Zamora and Postiga) bu what about a CM prescence? What about the defence?? Hoddle goes after 6 games... :(

- Summer 2004: Ok now we have a new manager who has coaxhed the French team; we have a DOF that actually seems to try to sign players we NEED. Wow1 Exciting! The Spurs carousel in full flow. Transfer windows would never be the same again as the words "Spurs" and "last minute signing" become a staple...
Finish respectively and for the first time in perhaps a decade or so something is riding on our last league game...in a positive way....

- Summer 2005: crazy time...buy Routledge and the Lennon as his back-up. A TRUE great in Davids joins. Wow! Lennon storms league. Defoe has a great start. Even Arnesen's deflection to Chelsea doesn't stop the forward momentum made those first few months. In fact was that Chelsea doing a Willian to us then?? Maybe they feared us?? Ledley King's injury in the away game at Everton (when their fans say we were the best side they'd faced at home and Carrick the best cm) means things for him would never be the same again :terry:

- Lasagne...nuff said....

- Summer 2006: We sell Carrick and buy Zokora...but we bought Berbatov! We are often a shambles at the back but boy were we exciting going forward. Now as a club we look upwards rather than downwards. Still bend over for Arsenal though...

- March 2007, FA Cup quarter final vs Chelsea: nearly became first English team to beat Jose at Stamford Bridge; why oh why did BMJ take Berba off??? Same old negative hold what we have tactic from him..grrr...

- Summer 2007: yes we buy some promising talent (remember that Bale chap??) but why oh why didn't we buy some players we REALLY needed for the first team??

- January/February 2008: Ramos got us a win vs Arsenal, a win IN A CUP FINAL vs Chelsea (and a VERY good Chelsea side at that). Now WE are feared by the big 4, especially after pushing United very close in two games...what if we'd been able to hold onto that 1-0 lead early Feb vs United? What if Berba had scored vs Cudicini in the last minute in the Chelsea 4-4 game at the Lane?? We were now the great entertainers...then along come an away league game at Birmingham...then a bad back-pass at home to PSV....

- Summer 2008: Sell Berba and Keane; replace with Campbell and Pav. Great stuff...

- Feb 2009: Carling Cup final and the reason that all 'underdogs' should practice taking penalties...imagine if we'd won the cup two years running? Imagine Harry's CV??

- April 2010 FA Cup semi-final vs Portsmouth. Yes we got top 4 that season, but I honestly think in terms of winning cups, we still haven't recovered from what was in fact our biggest bottle job since the 95 FA Cup semi-final...

- 2011 UCL Quarter final way to Madrid: well we are in the big time, but we prepare in a small-time way (does nobody know Adebayor can head the ball well??), play small-time (Crouch sending-off) and in the end have our pants slowly pulled down for Jose to look at...not a good way to go out....

- 2012 and 2013: I can't be bothered to go into much more......

Overall, I blame Sugar and Redknapp for our current predicament....if Sugar had taken one or two calculated risks the Goons and Chavs wouldn't have stolen the big marches that they have. If Redknapp had just simply got more points than some relegated sides in the second half of the 2011-12 season we would have kept Modric, had a chance to teal a march on Arsenal a bit, but as you say the rest is history....

Woah! Yep a whole lot of misery. I think what hurts most is the fact that the more we've improved, the more we've had to suffer ie. lasagne gate and Munich with both incidents benefitting the two clubs we despise the most ](*,)

Anyway, 1991 is now 23 years ago thus making this the second longest period of time in our history that we've gone without winning the FA Cup.

1. 1921 - 1960
2. 1991 -
3. 1882 - 1900
4. 1967 - 1980
5. 1982 - 1990

And to think we're the second most successful club in the competition's history.

Blame it all on Levy ! Since 1951, we had always won a a trophy in the year that ends with "1". It stopped under Levy when he sacked GG just before the 2001 FA Cup semi final against Arsenal. We again failed under Levy in 2011. Levy again sacked the manager, AVB, just before the FA Cup match against Arsenal this season. Not surprisingly, we went down tamely to Arsenal who went on to win the FA Cup yet again.

I guess we have to wait until 2021 to have any realistic chance of winning the FA Cup. In the meantime, just look at Levy's record during his time : 13 years in charge, won 1 League Cup, qualified for CL once. That's it ! I think we need to have a more ambitious chairman if we want to win trophies again.

Combine the two?

Yep, it was trophies galore down White Hart Lane until that bald bastard showed up.

Surely, the time under Alan Sugar and Daniel Levy must be the worst period in Spurs history. Just 2 League Cup trophies in 23 years is simply unacceptable.

Wow just got home and reading this thread, I didn't realise that the goon trolls would be that bothered about us today!?!
