Dont know much about Allegri but he's far more proven it seems Pochettino. And after, AVB and TS, I cant see Levy going for another manager who either hasny won much or is coming off a train-wreck situation like AVB.

As such, I would have thought that in the event that LVG does go to Man U (and I think thats far from certain as I would expect them to appoint someone more for the long-term) then I would expect Allegri to be very much in the frame along with FDB and Ancelotti (if obtainable once sacked from Real)
there is no long term in football....moyes and his 6 year contract proves that, means nothing. Utd will be looking to the next 3 years and LVG can fulfil this

I think Allegri has the potential to be a train wreck.

The media like to sow seeds of doubt into our supporters minds and just like they did with AVB they will play on Allegri's failure in Italy until most of the fan base will be dubious about him before the first game. Lets face it the way things have been this season, the fans need to see us striving to improve and bringing in someone who the media will tarnish from day one will not appease most of them.

For me the only way to keep everyone happy aside from signing LVG is to get in FDB or Pochettino. FDB has the background to earn the respect of the media from day one and the fans will buy into his philosophy quicker than they did with AVB. Pochettino has a track record in the league already so will be safe from some of the media attacks. I'd be happy with either but the club would have to be open with the fans on what to expect over the next two years. We can't have the players and media bigging us up as title contenders nor top 4 certainties on the first day of the season and getting people's hopes up.

True, Spalletti has won the Russian league too.

Point remains that even those managers we could potentially get that have won stuff also carry substantial risk. As such having won something or not is just one, imo rather small, factor out of many.

funnily enough, after Hoddle all of Levys subsequent appointments have previously won trophies with their former clubs

Managers (who may be gettable) with PL experience/won something:

FAC:
Roberto Martínez
Roberto Di Matteo
Roberto Mancini
Carlo Ancelotti*
Harry Redknapp
Rafael Benítez
LC:
Manuel Pellegrini*
Michael Laudrup
Alex McLeish
Juande Ramos
Steve McClaren

Gutterboy, I'm not calling you out, just interested in yours and well, everyone's opinion.

The concensus from those in "your camp" was that you liked AVB because he was more of a "project" manager, and you wanted him to be given more time as he was building for the long term etc.

Surely Pochettino represents more of this route than LVG, who probably will be retiring in a few years and would probably be interested in managing for the here and now.

Pochettino has utilised a lot of young players at Southampton and his buys are mostly of the 'up and comer' variety like Lovren, Wanyama, Ramirez. He's also embedded a style there and defensive solidity which is very impressive.

I don't have a problem with the here and now style of management (like Redknapp) or the 'project' style of management (like Rodgers), and both can be successful if implemented fully. Its just that for me you seemed to be a big fan of the 'project' style, which i think Pochettino represents over LVG.

I mean don't get me wrong, after the chance of having LVG as our manager was dangled infront of us, Pochettino would seem like a bit of an anti-climax, but to me he seems like a more tactically flexible, less mentally unhinged version of AVB, which I thought would have ticked a lot of your boxes?

I'd be happy with Pochettino.

But I think LVG is the ultimate project manager - all 4 of his clubs - Ajax, Barca, AZ and Bayern - have gone on massive upward trajectories, both during his tenure and afterwards. He sorts the structures out properly, focuses on youth development, and leaves lasting legacies, including a raft of protégés to succeed him (Guardiola, Mourinho, FDB, Rijkard).

My reason for favouring LVG over Pochettino or FDB at the moment, is because Levy has shown again that he won't actually back a project. AVB:
- Didn't get the DoF he wanted until the 3rd of his 3 windows
- Didn't get our long term failing medical team overhauled like he wanted
- Didn't get support in removing the people who were undermining him (Sherwood and Ade)
- Didn't get time to gel us as an attacking force (remember how poor Liverpool were last season, until it finally clicked for them)

LVG has the strength of personality and emotional intelligence to stand up to Levy and gain himself time to fix the structures.

Actually the manager who I rate, but who I think is a very bad match for us because he's the opposite of a project manager, is Ancelotti. His MO is definitely eeking the final few miles out of old high-wage players.

You missed a star behind Martinez (and that's not happening) and probably Benitez too.

not many names there without a star behind it that I would want us to go for ahead of names like De Boer, Pochettino and Spalletti.

the football wasnt poor, they were creating plenty of chances but were failing to finish them off, thats all....despite finishing 7th last season, Liverpool scored more than us and conceded less too

Out of all those discussed, I really think only Pochettino will be the one that is feasable in terms of his footballing ethos and potential. All the others would aspire for bigger clubs (and the majority wouldn't be looking for work this summer anyway).

If we don't want or get Pochettino I could well see Sherwood being manager next season.....

I think we could get De Boer or Spalletti if we tried. I'm not aware of anything about either that makes them a mismatch with us in terms of footballing ethos or potential.

If we're going for "lowest train wreck potential" as the most important factor Moyes should probably be our man...

ohhh i not sure about that now.....he had quite a few bad starts at Everton where they were in the bottom 10 until around christmas iirc, and he is the chosen one who has taken Utd from champions to 7th in one season. Plus how every season his teams seem to have to deal with a long injury list. wow, it makes me shudder that he may be a contender for the Spurs job

I don't think he is a contender. I'm sure he'll put his name forward, but if Levy goes for him even I will start doubting Levy's decision making ;)

He also had a much smaller squad and way less resources at Everton. With a bigger squad and thus less impact from injuries I think he would have performed at a more stable level.

The United situation is hilarious, but I don't think it's all his fault. He was in way over his head there, something he wouldn't be at Spurs I think.

This is Spurs, we could get Fergie out of retirement or reincarnate Clough, and we'd still end up a laughing stock, the universe is against us.

It makes it fun though. No matter who we get, you just know it'll go wrong. The fun is in trying to guess how it'll go wrong.

Dodgy lasagne, manager fired during a game where he was the last to know, previously well respected manager looks completely clueless and can't speak English, manager misses crucial game because he's in court telling the judge that his dog has a bank account before he hitches his skirt for England, piece of crap of a club win the CL playing dire football and with a caretaker manager who WBA sacked to deny us CL football, get absolutely walloped by all the big clubs despite having a man with a big plan, Tim and his utterances...

We really are a joke shop at times but it ain't boring.

Do we really believe De Boer would come to us? I have no idea, just a few people seem to think he will end up at Arsenal with Dennis Bergkamp as the dream team. Ill admit I dont know enough about Spalletti to comment on that one.....

4 titles in a row at Ajax, he's mentioned in the past that he will look for bigger things eventually. I think there's a real chance he'll be looking for a move somewhere this summer. Unless Barca draw him out of their big hat of random managerial targets (although he's probably overqualified) I don't see many clubs bigger than ours giving him a chance coming straight out of Holland.

Not a certain of course, but I think we would be well in with a shout if we went for him. He's even specifically mentioned our name in the past as a club he could see himself managing in the future. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892/transfer-zone/2014/02/07/4601936/de-boer-i-would-like-to-coach-liverpool-or-tottenham?ICID=AR

If van Gaal gets the United job that's most likely all the top PL jobs set for the summer other than us. Barca might, but probably won't, go for him. Real won't, neither will Atletico. Bayern are set, as are Dortmund. Whose left? PSG perhaps, I don't see it...

I think we're much more attractive than some people think. Of course we can't compete with the truly massive clubs like United, but there's only a limited amount of those clubs around and a ton of managers.

Usually well connected Stobart saying that we were waiting for LvG. If that doesn't happen (because of Manu) Pochettino will be next on the list, but along with a few others and will depend on interviews etc. Not a clear cut candidate.

Stobart also mentioned Tuchel, as mentioned and expanded on by AE on the previous page, as an exciting candidate highlighting his performance compared to wages in the Bundesliga and his good English, but saying that he (Stobart) doesn't know about any interest from Spurs and that there's unlikely to be one.

i dont see how LVG can be number 1 on a list and Pochettino number 2........they are different in so many ways, there seems to be no logic in how Spurs go about things
