VDV

van der Vaart had fitness issues and Dempsey wasn't perhaps the most technically gifted but how we could do with some feisty characters like them to gee up our current bunch of highly talented softies when the chips are down and we're battling against the odds.

Amazing technique, shame about his stamina etc. I think anyone who consistently scores against Arsenal should be kept, so that's him and Jenas I want back....

He was a winner, however his legs had gone.. Watching him live became a sad thing for me as he was just always off the pace just before we sold him. Has also been terrible by all accounts for Hamburg..

We need to keep his brain in a jar with bio-electrical hook-ups that can attach to our players brains before each match.

Was he really off the pace? I didnt have Sky back then so didnt see every live game but the games I saw he was amazing. Last live game I saw him in was Villa. against 10 men he was defending in our box then burst up the pitch to score. all the while playing as a loan striker and holding the ball up.

didnt seem off the pace to me?

See jenas is starting to put in a shift for QPR now he needs a new contract, said how much he loves it there and would like to stay for another couple of years. Footballers really are a pathetic money grabbing bunch, the guy has done **** all for 3 years.

He went off after 60/70 minutes a lot blowing hot air harder then an old king's cross ***** blows punters.

That was kind of my point, on TV you only see him on the ball. They dont show his off the ball movement or lack of it. I am sure on MOTD he still looked great as they only show his action with the ball and runs in to the box but he was being carried in other areas by the other players..

Believe me I was/am a huge fan and didnt want to believe my eyes but his time had gone..

when we signed him he hadn't had a proper pre season and could only last 60 mins, 2 years later he wasn't any fitter, how does that happen in the PL?

what the hell do our coaches do, we signed a very good keeper 18 months ago who couldn't kick the ball, here we are now and we still haven't fixed it

how hard can it be

He was one of our best players. That simply means levy has to sell him that's the way the bald cretin works. Best players must be sold. Vertonghen and Lloris this summer. And still people will say he's some sort of legend for skimping a few thousand pounds off a deal for an average player.

Always said we should never have sold him. Most people on here thought though in that signing Siggy we would be well covered, ignoring the fact that VDV was proven at international, CL level and across many geographies, whereas Siggy had scored a few for Reading and Swansea

Moving forward, we need to get a proper manager in in the summer and build a team around Lloris, Walker, Verts, Sandro and Eriksen. Lloris, Sandro and Verts are as good as you'll find in their positions whilst to improve on Walker at RB will cost £20m (which we don't have) and Eriksen is a top class creative player

Massive mistake selling him IMO if we had an option to keep him (which we may not have). 70min of VDV is worth far more than 90mins of Siggy, Holtby or whoever.
I'd bring him back in an instant.

There are some dark corners of fate which should never be tempted in any way manner or form, not even remotely...

I must admit I'd forgotten how he just bent over and took it and sold Bale and Modric without so much as a whimper of defiance...

Was sold at the exact right time, just like Keane was when he was sold to Liverpool...

Agree.

Van der Vaart is now completely past it.
We made the mistake of getting the flavour of the month. Sigurdsson in this case. A nothing special player at Hoffenheim who suddenly scored a few at Swansea in half a season. The Icelandic Bentley

Bentley was great. Something went wrong there but it wasnt football reasons. His ability cant be questioned and in no way should Sigg be compared to him
