Hahahah! Classic! :)

I'm watching the Avs vs Canucks now, and just have to chuckle everytime the commentators start with their commercials talk, "Cheerios, the perfect way to start your day" and then the other guy replies "yeah, with a bit of banana and some milk that's as healthy as it gets" and yada yada yada. Damn, I'd kill myself if the football commentators starting doing that.

I find it fascinating that they are allowed to fight im Hockey. Im s ure its tolerated and tactical, not sure on the history, but its just wicked.

In the mirror online they had this hockey where after two seconds they were all fighting - im sure it was premeditated

Sometimes teams over an 82 game season just get a bit of a grudge going, then they will want to get their aggression out of the way early doors so they can just play the game, it's an odd part of the game but sometimes bloody awesome.

The Avalanche are plodding along nicely, if Roy can get them a good playoff slot and maybe advance a round it will be a fantastic season.

Only in certain leagues/competitions, if you watch any of it in the upcoming Winter Olympics, any fighting would see you kicked out of the game.

Sounds like Vancouver v Calgary from the other day:

Quite a lot of them got kicked from the game I think, but funny to see the packed penalty boxes at the end

John Tortorella (Vancouver coach going ape**** in that clip) later tried to get into the Calgary changing room , been suspended 15 days/6 games. Always had a screw loose.

Out of all the north american sports - ice hockey is the one I can watch and not get bored. Watched the Edmonton Oilers ages ago in Edmonton. Brilliant.

And quite right that he went mad. The Flames lined up with a starting line of goons intent on fighting from the start. As a result the Canucks changed their lineup to match them (The away team has to submit their starting 5 before the home team). Canucks and Flames have a serious rivalry and that brawl was as a result of **** going on in previous games.

I don't really see why he had a problem. Flames send out their goons and he can respond in kind (and did). Little line brawl and get on with it. Had it been the other way around and he'd had the Sedin boys out there I could see why he'd be mad.

That he then still hasn't calmed down enough by the end of the first period that he has to try and storm the Calgary room singlehanded... the guy's temper must be extraordinary.

How people will voluntarily watch American football, I will never understand. The game just keeps stopping all the ****ing time. And a commercial break. And 4 seconds of play. And a commercial break. 3 seconds of play. Stupid organ song. 2 seconds of play. Commercial break. It's got to be the least entertaining sport in the history of mankind.

Really looking forward to the olympics now though! Who do you reckon will win the hockey? I'm hoping for Russia vs Canada in the final. Hard to call really, but I'm guessing Russia will be too strong at home and nick it. Hoping for Norway though! ;) Haha.

I dont get NFL. Majority I speak to seem to enjoy it. I just dont like it or got the hang of it. Its the stop start nature of it.

Ice Hockey in olympics is always brilliant.

I adore the Olympic ice hockey.
Is it worth watching in the UK?

The Elite League is mehh, used to be pretty good once upon a time ago when there were some half decent players, a team in London to go watch, the NHL players coming over during the lock out and when Theo Fluery came over and wreaked havoc.

I used to go and watch it at EPL, BNL level, which was fun but not good quality Hockey.

Give it a go, it's not the NHL but it's never going to be, especially if no-one ever gives it a go :) I'm a season ticket holder at my local club (Nottingham).

There's no Elite League (which is the top level, really) presence in your part of the country (I'm assuming Reigate from your location), but there are some decent English Premier League sides (Guildford, Bracknell, Basingstoke). Or Streatham Redskins play in the English National League South 1 (next level down from EPL, there's North 1 and 2, South 1 and 2 in the ENL). All just about within striking distance.

Where abouts in Nottingham you live? I live in Sherwood as I go to uni here, have considered going to watch the Ice Hockey but haven't had the time yet.

OK Guildford is easiestI shall have a look.

Olympics starting tomorrow! Psyched. "Looking forward" to seeing Norway getting thrashed by Canada on Thursday. :p

Oh, lord. There's too many "power breaks" in the NHL! Watching the tv coverage is just a drain, there's 5 minutes of play, and then 5 minutes of commercials. Driving me nuts. Avs in trouble at the Sharks. Both teams already in the play-offs, but the Avs should win to get a better draw. 1-3 down with 11 mins left of the game. Get in!

Finished the season 2nd seed in the west, pretty damn happy with that.

Would be happy to make the second round of the play offs.

Welcome to American sports! Could you imagine this in football every time there's a free kick or corner? I'll never understand how Americans can accept this as part of their sports viewing.

One way round this however is to give up on watching hockey games live, pre-record them and fast forward through them. I've done it, and it's surprising how quick a three hour recording can go!
