****OMT***** Tottenham Hotspur vs. Crystal Palace - 11/01/14: 3pm

Jurgen the German

David Ginola
----------------Lloris------------------
Walker---Dawson-----Vlad------Rose
Lennon---Dembele--Eriksen--Townsend
-------------Ade---Soldado------------

Praying that Vertonghen makes a recovery for this one and that we recall Ekotto from QPR so he can play instead of Rose.

Spurs 1-0 Crystal Palace

Soldado penalty 75 minutes

I would pick the same side that started today's game -- keep the faith. Allow Rose a chance to redeem himself. Eriksen has been very good from the left, imo. Bentaleb will be more than ready for Palace in a home game after being forged in the fire of the North London Derby.

This one is going to be very difficult and I am going to get very 'pumpy' if people are going on like ' we should smash them' 'its a home banker'

Emirates Marketing Project were quite fortunate to beat them 1-0 at home recently.....yes Emirates Marketing Project that free scoring juggernaught...

Whatever my thoughts on T Pulis and his 'knock it up to Crouchie' attitude The man knows how to organise a defence and his teams are always a bugger to come against us......They also had a 2-0 win at the Albion a team we could only draw with at home.

So we will face two very well organised banks of 4 and will have to work very hard to get between the lines and especially to get behind the Palace defence.

Please lets not underestimate Palace or Pulis......after beating Man Utd away in the league this is the sort of fixture we traditionally f**k up......please no complacency....

Palace are fighting for their lives.....Got a week to prepare for this so hopefully some players available and some players can get some much needed rest.

This is very much a must win game but we are going to have to work really hard to win because Palace are no mugs.

Good post Nigey. Do not understimate Palace, Tim. Tony Pulis ain't no fool.

Tottenham Hotspur host Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane on Saturday 11th January 2014, 2013 KO 15:00, in the 21st round of matches in the 2013-14 season.

Spurs come into the game in 6th place on 37 points with Palace in 18th place on 17 points. This will be the 93rd time the two clubs have played each other and the first at the Lane since December 2004.

Crystal Palace were founded in 1905 by the builders of the Crystal Palace (hence The Glaziers nickname) and played their first matches at the old Cup Final ground. They joined the Southern League Second Division for season 1905-06 and won promotion at the first attempt.

The first meeting between the two clubs came in the Southern League First Division in October 1906 with Spurs winning 3-0 at White Hart Lane and going on to do the double with a 1-0 away win in February 1907.

The 1907-08 season was the last for Tottenham in the Southern League and the two games against Palace ended with a win each. The clubs also played in the Western League that season with a win for both teams.

Spurs & Palace were regular opponents during the First World War and Tottenham enjoyed a run of nine consecutive wins against Palace during this period.

The first competitive game after WW1 came in the 1st Round (modern 3rd Round) of the FA Cup in January 1924 at The Nest in Croydon with Palace winning 2-0. They had previously played their games Herne Hill, Norwood and moved into their purpose-built stadium at Selhurst Park later in 1924.

Tottenham and Palace played several matches during World War Two with honours generally being fairly even.

Crystal Palace played their first season in the Top Flight of English Football in the 1969-70 season with Spurs winning both First Division matches 2-0. Jimmy Pearce and Martin Chivers got the goals at Selhurst Park while Alan Mullery and Steve Perryman were the scorers at White Hart Lane.

The clubs were also drawn together in the 4th Round of the 1969-70 FA Cup with Palace progressing after a 1-0 win in the replayed match in South London after the first game was goalless at the Lane.

Palace remained in the First Division for a further three seasons with Spurs winning four of the six matches and drawing the other two.

The clubs met in Division Two in 1977-78 with Spurs winning 2-1 at Selhurst Park (Ian Moores & John Duncan) and Palace getting a 2-2 draw at the Lane with Glenn Hoddle scoring a brace for Spurs. Tottenham won promotion at the end of that season.

Crystal Palace were back in the First Division for season 1979-80 and both matches against Tottenham were drawn.

The first Football League Cup game came in September 1980 with a 0-0 3rd Round draw at White Hart Lane followed by a 3-0 win at Selhurst Park in the replay with Ricky Villa, Glenn Hoddle and Garth Crooks all scoring.

The Eagles were founder members of the Premier League in 1992-93 but only lasted a season before being relegated. They returned for the 1994-95 season but fared no better and were again relegated. Their third season came in 1997-98 but failed to establish themselves and were relegated.
Palace were back again for the 2004-05 season but once again dropped down to the Championship.

The game at Selhurst Park in August 2013 was settled by a 50th minute Roberto Soldado penalty after Dean Moxey handled Aaron Lennon's cross.

The nine Premier League matches played between the two clubs resulted in three wins to Spurs and two to Palace with four games drawn.

Overall, Tottenham have won 41 of the 92 matches played so far with Crystal Palace winning 25 games and the remaining 26 drawn.

FWIW all of the rest of the Top 7 have picked up 3pts at home to Palace thus far this season, so hopefully a week of training and recuperation for our depleted squad means that Sherwood can continue the trend and lead us to victory over Pulis' inevitably well organised team.

I'd also stick to the same team as yesterday, as I think that Bentaleb showed enough to get the chance to start his first league game and Ade should have fully recovered from running himself into the ground at Old Trafford. With Townsend, Holtby and Defoe back in training this week (plus Sandro and Kaboul back next week) we at least will have some decent options to bring off the bench for a change.

Totally agree with Nigeyman's take on the fixture, and Jurgen's match preciction.

I can see it being one of those frustrating games where we will struggle to break down a stubborn well-drilled defence, until Aaron Lennon or maybe Kyle Walker earns a late penalty against some tired legs

Edgar Davids played for Palace??

On 20 August 2010, Edgar Davids agreed a pay-as-you-play deal with English Championship club Crystal Palace.

He made his debut on 24 August 2010 at left-back in the Second Round of the League Cup against Portsmouth.

On 8 November 2010, he announced his departure of the club after making 7 appearances in total, stating it was "one of the greatest experiences of my life".

Probably go with the same team as Utd, definitely don't want to sacrifice a CM for Townsend though.

That's why I went for a tight 1-0. We don't ever batter a Tony Pulis side.

Ideally I would take a 1-0 all day.....

What I would love to see is a bit of 1-touch passing incisive movement from us up front with a few goals....

This game is going to be a bugger......wasnt having a pop at you it was just a messasge to warn against complacency in what will be a diffiicult match.

Everyone picking the same team. Personally, I am hoping for a bit of variation.

Right now with our injuries, the starting X1 almost picks itself. Really depends on how the walking wounded progress in the next 7 days.
Vertonghen,Holtby,Sigurdsson are probably going to in contention for a start, but not holding out too many hopes with our recent record with respect to returning players.

Oh and can you believe it? Saturday 3pm kick-off...whats going on?
