***OMT***Tottenham Hotspur FC v West Ham

On the train back from the lane now. The subs really changed the game for us. Ade was so good at holding the ball. What he was doing execptionally in the first half was providing an outlet to the midfield, he was running into centre mid holding off the defender taking the ball at feet and distributing it. We lost that when he went off. I really thibk defoe should have gone off. In that situation we needed a player who could hold onto tthethe ball and distribute. I would habe loved to see eriksen in that game. Someone who could have picked open a defence. Yes the players were kanckered but really felt ade should have continued.

As for our back 4, we are just playing a CM at the back, so thats gonna show at some point. Capoue is NOT a CB.

Why did we not buy 2 or 3 CB's this summer like I wanted?

Some people seemed to think we had enough defenders. If only they understood how football works, injuries..

We have a kid at u21 level rated as the next Vertonghen/King. Why wasnt he tried?

I blame Kaboul for AVBs sacking and our current problems :) Just the type of player we needed tonight. An Ox to repel their battering ram. Where the funk is he?

Playing that midfield in front of that back line was ludicrous. Defoe being his usual wasteful self meant we might as well have played 4-4-1. If anything, it's the death of 4-4-2 with two out and out wingers putting crosses into the box. We created **** all in terms of goal scoring opportunities.

It's amazing that i've never seen you post this sentence before...ever (well not since the beginning of last season anyway).

Honestly Sir? The main positive I can dig from this is that hopefully, it's clear to all we cannot endure Timbo for the rest of the season? I was happy to see Ade back in the side, largely because i never lost it for him, and can heartily look forward to the recall of BAE and Carroll I hope...

I believe in Ade like you do. I really think he can and will be positive for the team.

Agreed we need those lads back. I do like that Rose was playing some down-the-line balls to Andros a la BAE/Bale though. We have the quality in the squad. I know the situation isn't ideal at the moment but we did look somewhat like the Spurs we love tonight.

It could be a 'point to prove' performance which backfired. I don't understand the subs myself. We were absolutely dominant before that.

POSITIVITY STEFF!!!!

In our losses to Spam, City and Liverpool we were useless all over, though we did create one or two chances. Against Saudi Sportswashing Machine we had several. Our attacking play today felt aimless to me. I was mostly annoyed by the insistence on getting the ball out wide to put in crosses we wouldn't score from. That West Ham defense will clear those 99% of the time, it's on the ground they're vulnerable. Felt like overcompensating to move away from AVB's tactics.

Taking ade off was the game changer.
That sub says 'we are going to try and contain you in the middle 3rd instead of the final 3rd as we have done do far'
The problem with that is, if you get the better of us, you only have our defense to beat instead of mf and df

That's a risky strategy at any inny time.
With a fragile week and a patched up df, it's an idiots decisin

I said as soon as ade went offe

Some promising signs, but a lot still lacking.

21-12 in shots, but West Ham had 8 on target we only had 4.

Sandro and a legitimate centre back sorely missed. Allardyce not the man you want to come up against with your smallest first team centre back and a defensive midfielder at the back.

Southampton will be a completely different kettle of fish, hopefully the team will reflect that.

A balanced summation.

Started towards the end of the first half as well. Simply ran out of steam.

So much for having rested with the ball all season up until now. ;) Sorry. I liked the way we played in the first 35 minutes, but it seemed as though the nerves got to us when we didn't get a goal. Didn't get the same hold of the game in the second half, and the subs were not good. Some absolutely shocking defending from Chirices and Fryers today. Chirices just plays with too high a risk, Zeki is just not good enough, I'm afraid.

Another young player who someone on here says isn't good enough. Rose was the last LB that many on here said wasn't good enough and he has so far matured into a decent (fragile) LB. Give the kids a chance!!!

**** all but he cant be that hyped and be worse centre half than Capoue.
Even AVB give up on Capoue with 10 minutes to go on Sunday moving Walker in the middle and Lennon to right back and Capoue into midfield.

Sherwood is clearly in a much better position to judge that. He's an 18 year old kid that's highly rated, but from that to performing against a PL team and a PL team known specifically for being physically strong is a big step. To assume that he can't be worse than Capoue when you haven't seen him play seems rather ridiculous.

+1

The moment I saw the formation, it seemed that they were trying to move the team away from anything remotely AVB like. No Lamela even on the bench when I think AVB woulda used him and Eriksen to give them some minutes. With that said, our team looks so bad right now. If we are going for a 442 then it really has to be a case of dropping all our midfielders and only playing Sandro and Eriksen, because none of the others offer enough. Holtby maybe, but expecting Dembele, Sig, Lamela or Paulinho to pull the strings in a two man midfield is mad

Not too bothered really as (a) I think we would lose to Emirates Marketing Project in the semis and (b) I don't necessarily want Sherwood to shine and look brilliant for a few games... I want Levy to really have a good think about what to do next, and not just think "oh, that lad over there got us 3 wins, maybe he is The Messiah" as I'm not at all sure he is

Let's concentrate on the league.

Well, just trying to take it all in whilst simultaneously hearing from Alan Davies on QI that a Koala's intestines are over a mile long.

Interesting starting line-up, and early performance was fairly good. Observation that Ade was back defending at some points, and earliest attempts at goal were 'hack & slay' variety rather than pass into the net type. Lennon very good, Walker largely holding back just in case. Cannot believe our crap corners to their rather trustworthy keeper, why was Andros not taking outswinging corners on the left ??.

Later in 1st half we were slowing up and getting pushed back, although the weather might have been playing a part as both sides started a sequence of U-10s errors.

Couldn't believe that Rose taken off after making excellent move through their midfield, also that we then had three blokes behind the resultant free kick and no-one in the box. Goal was good, so [sarcasm] the obvious thing is take the scorer off [/sarcasm]. Since when have we been a side to defend a shallow (or even a huge) lead ?

Personally (unpaid, unwelcome opinion) my sub would have been Fredericks for Siggurdson, but moving Walker behind the attack with fresh legs belting down the wing behind/with Lennon. Unorthodox, but play to your strengths.

Central defence was diffy, and we repeatedly fail to get our heads to the high ball in. Passing got worse, heavy 'incisive' passes a feature of this match to continue the recent past.

And lastly, I HATE having to view a Spurs bench full of masticators, especially with mouths open - it's disgusting, you pigs!!!!!. It only stopped when they all became 'tight-lipped, ashen-faced, Ron Knee' impersonators in the last 10 mins. (Private Eyes passim)

Shape up or ship out !!!.

Down with this sort of thing.

A fair analysis. Rose and Ade were both a welcome return. To those who hate Sherwood, and give the Ade sub as Sherwoods fault, would AVB have even played Ade tonight?
