Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale ITV 4 show

I think we need to be achieving more than that.

Didn't watch it but agree with most on here, what a player. I'd go as far as saying he was better than Ginola, my heart would say otherwise but the things he'd do sometimes were just ridiculous.

He was far better

Re: Gareth Bale ITV 4 show

Yep makes me feel very proud, don't get the hate for him. At the end of the day he's not a spurs fan, to expect him to have the same affinity with spurs as we do is naive. The biggest team in the world came in for him, paying the biggest transfer fee ever, why would he not want to go? Be realistic. He could have behaved better at the end and it soured it a little bit but, well, get over it!

I totally agree get over it - the fact he moved (that is). Im over how he acted (resented was absolutely furious about it at the time - but was hardly tied emotionally to the guy as much as he was great for us and had the privilege of seeing him at WHL on a regular basis - he was the best ive seen) but he has gone - so why should I miss him? Doubt he gives us a second thought. Doubt AVB (well he shouldnt anyways) gives Bale a second thought.

Anyways I wont open up a can of worms regarding Bale.

Ginola was pure talent in both feet but with no work rate. Bale is all pace power and stamina and a rocket of a shot. They are poles apart really. Ginola carried us in the dark days. Same as Bale did on occasions. They would have been amazing in the same team.

It's memories though. Some of my best memories involve being in the shelf with my dad and brother going absolutely mental watching Gareth destroy the European champions. I'll never forget his time at Spurs, probably the best I've seen in a spurs shirt.

Don't get the people who want to hate on ex players, part of the joy of supporting Spurs is remembering those moments.

After the years of mediocrity, Berbs, Modric, VDV, Bale have just been a pleasure, none left without us being well compensated, none left for the Scum, none have really had too much negative to say about us in the media ... so we move on, and I'll remember the moments.

Re: Gareth Bale ITV 4 show

It was a genuine pleasure to see him perform to a world class level week in week out! phenominal....

He single handedly put on the show of the game I will always remeber being at... when we beat inter 3.1... I think more fondly of that night than I do the 99 cup final

Re: Gareth Bale ITV 4 show

Bale became a better player after that season but was the Inter game THE standout game of his Spurs career?

Can we have Hoddle feeding them passes as well. :)

Hard to argue otherwise - shame the game wasn't 5 minutes longer as i reckon we'd have got a point out of it.

Great game to be at - was late getting in and by the time we got to the stand we was just in time to see Gomes giving away the penalty and getting sent off lol

Re: Gareth Bale ITV 4 show

I like to think I was at the two games where he really took of in his stride. It was the best week in my life as a Spurs fan - Beating Arsenal on a Wednesday night with a ferocious atmosphere - he got the second goal. And then three days later he scored against Chelsea and we beat them 2-1 as well. After that he comtinued to have good form for the last month of the season.

Then into the next season you have him getting a hattrick against Inter Milan away and making what was a LOSS seem like we got something!!! Honestly I've never lost a game and felt as happy as I did that night. I was estatic.

I was also at the Inter Milan game at home where we had Bale making Maicon (best right back in the world at the time let us not forget!) look like nothing. Everytime he got the ball, even at the halfway line people were rising from their seats, anticipating him running it past Maicon yet again. The power of his runs were unreal and he kept crossing the ball in all night.

I wish I could've afforded a game to go to last season, some of the goals he scored were unreal. Honestly, the BEST player I've ever seen in a Spurs shirt in my 20 years as a Spurs fan. He's a genuine world class talent and despite how he left, he never came out and said it outright. I'll always have respect for him and I'm still convinced that we'll see him at Tottenham again one day.

Re: Gareth Bale ITV 4 show

The question is, when we finally get in the CL and we play Madrid home and away, what kind of reception will he get? Will it be the kind reserved for club legends who will be cheered and applauded no matter what or will people realise he is about to tear us a new one and start on him?

I've got mixed opinions, I never want anyone to leave the club, when they do they are dead to me (metaphorically speaking anyway)

Still have mixed feelings towards three of those for dissing the club in the way they engineered their transfers. Suppose you're right though, need to rise above it.

I don't get why people still like him. People still pine for Berbatov to come back. It's one sided, they couldn't give a **** about Spurs. Players like Freund, Ginola, Mabbutt are the ones I have affection for even though they may not be Spurs fans, they had an affinity for the club. For the record, I don't expect Spurs players to love the club like we do, have no idea why players claim they've always supported the club they play ala Sheringham, Keane, Bentley, Szcezsney. All I ask is they act professionally when they leave. I don't particularly care if Bale succeeds, but I absolutely do not want Real Madrid to win any trophies whilst he is there or any time in the forseeable future either. I hope Barca smash them into oblivion.

One more point, why do fans not care how players behave but they expect managers to always honour their contracts act like they've stabbed the club in the back if they leave midseason for a better job? I'm not talking about any one manager in particular, but I think it should be the same for both players and managers.

Re: Gareth Bale ITV 4 show

that's a good question, the immediate answer that springs to mind is that over the last 20 years we have had many players clearly to good for us, that's not been the case with mangers though, in my time as a spurs fan only Venables could say he was worthy of a bigger job, AVB may well break the mould though

Re: Gareth Bale ITV 4 show

edit: deleted post as it was too confrontational and I really can't be bothered!
