Willian

You know what guys, I've just watched this Mourinho press conference and while for about 2 seconds I boiled with anger at the **** arrogance of the man, the way he beams with pride because his Ogliarch owner is able to throw any money at any situation in order to beat down his competition...I then realised something.

We are ****ing close guys. Mourinho was trying to paint us as the amateurs, not able to close a deal when it's pretty obvious it was us doing the leaking about anything, the club is notorious for keeping things back. No; what was actually happening was Mourinho in full 'mind games' mode to try and influence the press and spin a story his way, and badly for us. If we were not a threat, he wouldn't even bother. The fact that he feels the need, shows that we are some sort of influence on his thinking.

And this is the attitude the club needs to take. Suck it up, don't now act with anger because it will distort our thinking. Mourinho is trying to rile us up to do something stupid if he can help it along but we have to keep doing what we are doing. Get Lamela sorted, and move on to the bext target. There simply has to be someone out there that can do as good a job as Willian for the money we were going to pay.

And so our progress can still continue. Any signing in Willian's position can improve us, and move us up a level. Willian doesn't move Chelsea up a level, and only marginally improves their squad. They've spent 30 million to sign someone so we can't have them. So if we can sign someone just as good we can make that step up to them.

Chelsea now have A stupid amount of attacking midfielders, and I don't believe it's as easy as having 2 good players for every position. It isn't Football Manager, and certain players don't expect to be rotated. Schurrle would have come on the prospect of regular football. De Bruyne will have had enough of the loans by now. Even if Moses goes, you have Mata, Oscar and Hazard. There is genuine potential for discontent here, because I can't think of an example where so many players of a similar standing of that level, have been in the same squad before. Can it really work? Someone is going to have to miss out.

great post......

yep lets hope for squad harmony down the drain.......

we move on...please don't take the bait AVB just laugh it off whilst on the inside fight them with the determination of Rocky Balboa vs Apollo Creed.

Jesus lads, I thought I was on RAWK with some of the reactions. **** happens. Its not nice but if Levy did this we would all think he was great.

There werent many dissenting voices when he had Uniteds pants down over Fryers. Very few cared when he took Siggy and Clint from under Liverpools nose. I know this is worse than the latter two mentioned but its business and stuff like this goes on. At times we arent above sinking to that level (remember how BMJ was treated towards the end).

We will move on and continue to build. Best to laugh it off and get our own back further down the road (by beating them or having their pants down somewhere else).

Also, dont take Mourinho seriously. Hes a wind up merchant with a very sharp mind/wit. Its great to have him back even if we are his first victims this time. Like someone else said, the fact hes having a pop at us should tell you how much of a threat he knows we are.

GHod I hate Mourinho and the constant fawning over him, where everything he says is part of some incredible physiological ploy -- instead of him just being a complete bellend with a huge ego. "Oh but he's so clever, creating that siege mentality, he's got a degree you know..." F**K THAT, HE'S A C**T, WHO LOVES HIMSELF!

F*ck 'em. There's plenty of other players out there and we are going along nicely. Chelsea aren't exactly setting the world alight, considering "TEH MESSIAH!" has returned.

Agree 100% mate. Can't believe there are non Chelsea fans who like or even admire him. He's just a total prick. I prefer Wenger, Allardyce, Benitez, all the common villains. At least those are real football men with some kind of respect for the game. Mourinho's perfect for Chelsea, just a soulless **** for a soulless club.

=D> =D>

Brilliantly put.

We shouldn't just offer a wry smile whilst being rogered.

We need to reach around and squeeze those balls hard. Bring in someone that will tell them that we are up for this in a big way.

Definitely agree. Get Lamela in and for me, I would try and get Nani too. He has a year left on his deal at Man Utd with no prospect of a new contract in the offing as yet. Knows the league and would probably fit the system we would want to play quite well.

If we got those two in as a replacement for Bale then I would be quite pleased overall. Finish off the window with a centre back and possibly a creative midfielder and really it is all to play for, especially against the teams who are going to be in the mix for titles and trophies.

£30m is a looooot of money - we could quite easily buy the likes of Benteke for that (example), Nani too as mentioned by Libero could be bought for a fraction IMO.

I've not really seen Willian play but I think the annoying thing was because AVB knows him and wanted him.

You know what guys..

One of the best posts I've ever read in here =D>
You should send your post to Levy, Baldini and AVB
Yeah, it sucks when you're sooooo close to a player with a profile we could dream of only a couple of years ago, BUT we can get players who could be at least as good as Willian for £30 mill.
Lets keep our heads up and know that we're being looked at as a challenger now. Its starting to be 30 years ago since last it happened \o/

Problem with trying to get another Willian in is that its now 24th August. You need to identify the player, agree the fee with the club, agree the wages with the player and then in all probability wait til the selling club get a replacement in. That's a lot to do in under 10 days

We should forget about the greedy Willian and look for other players. I am sure we can find other better players such as Pastore, Dzagoev, Lamela or even the Japanese Honda. All of them are much better players as they score more goals than Willian.

Nice to know Willian would like to further his stellar Brazilian career with a move to Chelsea where he should be playing every single game every single week. Top player.

I don't know, the point of these 2 players (in my eyes) was replacing Bale's input with 2 different players. Willian for the creativity and Lamela for the goalscoring. I suspect that is what AVB has in mind. As such, the amount of goals Willian or a similar player scores isn't necessarily all that important.

I personally think that he didn't have that in mind persé, Lamela will be our Bale replacement, we've simply just added goals across the pitch in my view. We may sign a creative player as well though, I wouldnt rule it out.

Considering Willian only actually became available 2 weeks ago or so, I assume we already have a list of 'Willians' for AVB, Baldini and Levy to get through, so we're not working from scratch at all. Not ideal of course that it is this late but at least it isn't the 30th.

So do you think the plan was only ever to sign Lamela (or another player in the same mould if we can't close for whatever reason) and Willian was just an added extra we decided to go for due to his sudden availability?

I believe so, yeah!

I think as soon as Willian was made available we became interested. I don't think that if Willian wasn't available that we'd have gone for him. It was just his availability and the history between him and AVB. I think if we were after "creative" players then he wouldn't have been the only one on the list.

Tottenham believe Chelsea gazumped them for £30million Willian because Jose Mourinho fears they are genuine title contenders.

Fuming Spurs are preparing to confirm the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid this weekend for a *world-record fee, and he has already been removed from the club’s website.

Andre Villas-Boas’ side looked set to emerge far stronger with their swoop for Anzhi Makhachkala’s 25-year-old playmaker – so Chelsea’s hijack comes as a huge setback to their plans.

The north Londoners are convinced that Blues owner Roman Abramovich was persuaded to blow apart the Willian deal because boss Mourinho fears Spurs are now *credible rivals for the Premier League crown.

The Special One insisted on Tuesday: “Tottenham have a fantastic squad. They can win the title. They are in my top six.”

On Thursday, the Stamford Bridge club contacted Willian’s representatives - as the player was undergoing a Spurs medical.

The Brazilian completed the tests, then immediately met with the west London club, who confirmed they had reached agreement with Anzhi on Friday *afternoon.

Chelsea maintain Willian – expected to seal a five-year deal next week – is a player they have targeted for around two years, and that they had been encouraged to move in by the player and his club.

Madrid-bound Bale will stay away from Spurs’ first home game of the season on Sunday, even if he is still a Tottenham player.

Real were ready to announce the £85m deal on Friday before Spurs lost out on the signing of Willian.

Bale has agreed a six-year deal worth £8.6m a season and is set to wear the No.11 shirt.

But the Welshman will not risk the anger of Spurs fans by attending the Swansea match.

Head coach Villas-Boas said: “We have no rules nor obligation for players not selected to be on the bench or in the stadium, so I don’t expect Gareth to be seen at the club.”

Fair enough. I still think that even if that is the plan, we should now be looking at a creative player to play in those front 3 slots. Especially with a player like Soldado up front.

I also still dont think we are after a "central" creative player. We're simply crowding the central midfield with big strong beast midfielders who will overpower and keep the ball whilst our wide men do damage, which is why Willian would have been good, creative wide midfielder who can cause havoc by coming inside. I am hoping Lamela can do that, he is creative but he relies more on dribbling and finishing and what a hell of a finisher he is.

mate...i said this yesterday.
it is joorchabian but it is also the player in this instance...i hope all the details come out...i know there's great consternation here at ITKs but they were all right when they said it was a done deal in everybody's eyes. medical had been done, tour of training ground, etc...agent then demanded some absurd reshuffle in terms but crucially, the player did NOT object.
joorchabian is scum. but what player allows themselves to have a medical and then turn around and walk? that's a new one to me...

Anyway, moving on...we will be fine. Chelski will implode. I expect a few choruses of '**** Ronaldinho, you're just a **** Ronaldinho' when we play them...

If he doesn't score a hat-trick every game then I can't see him getting many games there anyway, then next season he will want another move, I think we might have dodged a lot of hassle missing out on him, Willian and any other player in the world are not bigger than us we are THFC.
