***OMT*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace

I was watching with a Portuguese friend and he commentated on how fast we are and quick onto the ball. I think we will just smother teams a lot this season. I like the way AVB totally has his own exact vision of how he wants us to play even if it's not totally the Tottenham ideal. Can't remember that from a manager of ours so precisely before and it inspires confidence. We've lost players I liked a lot like VDV, Kranjcar, Hud and now it looks like Ekotto but I do just trust in AVB's way and can now see when he wants a physical, fast player like Rose above the craft of BAE then he's right as he's building a team not just playing the most talented individuals.

his vision is jose's vision from the old chelsea team.

for it to be complete our wing forwards are going to have to be of higher quality.

thing is though...if our wingers are of higher quality then we become genuine title contenders. i am picturing bale staying, and one of willian/pjanic/lamela/mata signing.

Who would be your choice out of Willian and Lamela? (assuming Bale stays)

Bale and Lamela providing goal threats and Soldado feeding off scraps or Willian creating for the other two

You know what, many in this thread complained that we didn't create much and watching the full game I kind of got that impression, but is funny how condensing stuff down into the key highlights focuses the mind. Watching MOTD 2 last night, we created quite a few good chances and shoudl have buried them really.

I'd say Sigs, Defoe's and Chadli's chances should be converted 8/10 by players of their quality (yes and I do realise Defoe made the chance himself - doesn't stop me saying having got in that position he should have buried it). Make no mistake, 3 clear chances and a penalty in a Premiership game is a good haul of chances away from home by any stretch of the imagination.

Having watch that I have actually changed my opinion of the performance from decent, to good :)

Great to win our first match of the season. Hopefully this win will boost our confidence to achieve something this season. I think this win is significant for us as we seldom win the opening match of any season. IIRC, this is only our 4th win in 13 opening matches and also the first away win in 5 matches ! So, winning our first match of the season is actually a big achievement for us !

Ofcourse, wish we had win by a bigger scoreline but a win is a win ! We could have scored 2 or 3 more goals if we had make use of the chances we created. Great to see Soldado scoring in his first match for us, even if it was a penalty. It was a well-taken penalty from Soldado. Maybe he will be our regular penalty taker from now on. We didn't play that well but it was expected since there were many new players in the first 11. I think the team will need more time to gel together, especially Soldado, Paulinho, Chadli and Capoue.

One disappointing thing from this match was we should have finished off the match with the chances we got much earlier. Chadli should have scored with the header in the first half. But more disappointingly, our more experienced players like Sigurdsson and Defoe wasted golden chances which they should have done better. Both Sigurdsson and Defoe should learn to be more clinical in front of goal. It could have been costly to us if Palace had scored.

Nice to see us keeping the clean sheet. Big credit to the defence, especially Lloris. It was a great save from Lloris to deny Palace late in the match. Hope we will keep more clean sheets like this throughout the season. Thought Rose did really well in defence as he didn't make any big errors. Walker was shaky at times but atleast he didn't concede too many silly mistakes near our goal.

Nice to get the winning feeling from the first match of the season itself. Now we need to make sure we extend the winning run as long as possible. It will be great if we can go on a long winning run and strengthen our position in the league.

I'm happy with the win and I'm also reasonably happy with the team's performance all things considered.

I do believe , Spurs scoring 3-4 or 5 goals in games , will happen soon enough and on a regular basis too .

Am happy with the win, but not the manner of it. Boring to watch and no flair at all. There had better be continued results, because the support will not tolerate sterile performances like that for too long.

Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway has been charged with improper conduct and “bringing the game into disrepute” following comments against match officials after Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham.

What did he say?

And in his post-match interview, the 50-year-old told BBC Sport: "It's going to be a long, hard season for me with these people [referees].
"I had this with Blackpool. Certain clubs get fouls and others don't

Plus something about foul language and behaviour around the officials changing rooms.

Tottenham 1-1 Blackpool

Charlie Adam converted a 76th-minute spot-kick after Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes had fouled Gary Taylor-Fletcher.

Gomes had saved a penalty moments earlier from the same player after Michael Dawson handled in the area.

Blackpool 3-1 Tottenham

Charlie Adam put the Seasiders ahead with a clinical penalty after Sebastien Bassong brought down DJ Campbell.

`i like the guy, but he's an idiot, he's left himself no where to go now

Yeah, pretty silly seeing as the line in the sand for what you can say about refs has been at the point where you suggest a bias for quite some time now.

Unless he did it on purpose to deflect attention away from the players and onto himself, probably not though at this point in the season.

Maybe, although its not like they played badly and made obvious mistakes, what deflection is needed?

If its just playing the sob story card to get lenient decisions in future he should have waited for a questionable call.

Noticed hat Holloway is saying the penalty shouldn't have been given to us because apparently Chadli fouled a Palace player during the buildup. Don't know where he got that from as no one mentioned about any foul by Chadli that time. It is really funny and amazing the way the managers always come up with some excuses to dispute a decision. He can't dispute the penalty directly and so he disputing it indirectly.

And even worse, even if you said there was indeed a foul by Chadli (which IMO it wasn't - clear 50-50 shoulder to shoulder), that happened about 2 mins before the penalty was given - and most importantly, Palace actually won the ball back at least two times after the Chadli 'foul' happened and before the pen was given!!

Conclusion: Holloway doesn't know wtf he's on about. Just a classic sob story trying to try and inflence ref's for the rest of the season...

I found passing chalkboards are available again. they used to have them on the guardian but theyre back again in this new stats squawka.com
