Anyone remember that Bale chap?

Im thinking about bale who had a very bad spell with us but got given another chance and came through and showed his worth. I know people will say they could always see class in bale but i think that is flimflam because it was his personality that hard work ethic like lampard that has got bale to the top.

But i think as a club we are never going to give a young player that chance to do that with us, the news about caulker today as left me a little down but i also think it shows a bad side of the club, honestly if bale wants to move, after today i do not think i care.

If bale was the bale of 4 years ago do you think he would have made it under avb?

Im not suggesting caulker is like bale for the more simple minded of you, what im suggesting is we do not allow our young players or maybe even players we sign(siggy) to show their true worth.

I defo think we need another Bale thread, were all buzzing about him and his future right now...

Awesome

This is not about bale, more it is about whether we would ever see someone do what bale did. Be written off and then work his way back, this has more to do with caulker and my utter disgust at avb and the board then it does to do with bale.

Im more sad about losing caulker then if bale does leave.

What sort of club are we going to be if we expect every player to be on top form every season, if we do not let a player progress and improve, why have a youth set up?

I do not know marky im absolutely at a loss to know what direction the board and avb are taking the club. I just do not know if they have a plan anymore. Maybe the whole youth thing was a set up to make a little cash.

Well he got his second chance due to an injury. So unless the same circumstances were to occur then no.

Although it could have played into his hands that AVB likes quick attacking full backs..

If you like Caulker so much, wouldn't you rather see him get regular football elsewhere than just sit on the bench for us playing no more than 10-15 games?

To answer the original poster, yes

Bale 4 years ago, even in his bad spell, had moments where you saw the talent/potential. I remember taking a friend to the US preseason tour (the one 4 years ago) and highlighting to them, to look at Bale, because he was likely to be one of the best left sided players in the world soon (and I don't consider myself a great judge of youth talent)

Some players it's really obvious, for me, the first time I saw Berbatov play it was obvious, first time I saw Modric play, not so obvious. I never had the feeling about Caulker that he was going to be great, not bad.

Everyone forgets that Bale was hampered by a very serious injury early in his career, and that was the reason for his "struggles". He came into the first team after signing and absolutely blew me (and many others) away with his obvious talent. Then he got a shocker of a tackle at Saudi Sportswashing Machine and was out for months. After that he came back and had that ridiculous media-incited "curse" occur. Bale was always going to succeed, whether under AVB or anybody else.

Bale wouldn't have made it at Spurs back then if it wasn't for Assou-Ekotto's injury,
he needed that break to get game time from Redknapp.
Would have been someone elses jewel if that hadn't happened.

Bale's bad period... was he actually in poor form or did he just happen to have that weird run of games where he wasn't apart of a winning team for 20 games? i don't really recall ever thinking he was brick or not up to the task, his defensive work was a little below par but he looked promising from the outset from what i remember

That's it. I could always see Bale had a lot of potential. I'm not saying that I thought he'd be worth what he is now and hit the dizy heights he is but you could see from his free kick taking ability alone that he would at least be involved in the Premier League in future at soem sort of level.

He was part of a brick run off form in a team that were managed for a long while by the wrong manager. Bale looked decent but nothing amazing because he was played at left back.

Whether or not Bale would've played under AVB probably depends on whether AVB would push him up to left winger. It's difficult to tell, but AVB wasn't afraid to play him a bit more centrally and sometimes on the right so I think he would've pushed him.

This. Bale's technique was clear for all to see - it was just a matter of getting a haircut and taking out the hair clips and stopping fiddling with his emo fringe every 10 seconds.

I think Bale's refusal to train with us in pre-season is costing him badly now as he is not match-fit yet.
