Bongani Khumalo

For some reason there was no thread on him. Must be a glitch in the database.

Former Bafana Bafana captain, Bongani Khumalo, will not be returning to South Africa, and is willing to fight for a place at Tottenham Hotspur.

According to rumours, the 26-year-old’s future currently hangs in the balance, with reports in England suggesting that the defender had been transfer-listed by Spurs.

However, Khumalo’s South African agent, Glyn Binkin, has told the South African mediadenied these claims, something his representative in England, Matt Kleinman, has now reiterated.

Khumalo has experienced a difficult time in Europe since leaving SuperSport United in 2010, struggling to break into Tottenham’s first team and spending most of his time out on loan.

It’s believed that a whole host of South African clubs have shown an interest in landing the centre back, although his English representative has explained that isn’t an option for him.

Kleinman said, “Bongani aspires to keep playing in Europe, he’s going to return to Spurs for pre-season and he’s determined to fight for his place. We’re looking to see if there are some options if it doesn’t happen for him there this season, but he’s comfortable with his situation”, Khumalo’s English Agent told soccer-laduma.

Khumalo spent the latter part of last season out on loan with Greek giants, PAOK, putting in a number of good performances for the club towards the end of their campaign before leaving when his loan period expired.

Khumalo may join Andre Villas Boas’ Spurs pre season tour but it remains unclear if he will fit into the plans of the Portuguese manager for the coming season.

He is the key piece to the jigsaw of success, the path to glory, the key that opens our door to a land of dreams.

Hey, if he is happy sitting on the bench then fair play to him, he's the South African captain and he'd save us money by buying someone not needed. Play in Carling Cup games and perhaps some Europa Leauge games.

With Gallas now deemed surplus to requirements, it makes sense to hang onto Khumalo as an experienced central defender in case of emergency.

How ironic that you think someone who is patently not good enough for us will save us money. The sooner we get him of our wage bill the better

right... lets spend £6,000,000 on a 17 year old not to play.

Forget the money, why waste a spot in the squad on someone who can't even make it into a Championship team? He's awesome in every other way though.

Yeah I mean because Livermore and Carroll made it at Championship level. Even Kane was better in the Championship than those two.

We have enough CBs with the main 4 for next year. Would rather throw a young CB into carling cup games that play this guy

Fair enough.

Just if he has the attitude of wanting to succeed at Spurs I don't see why he shouldn't be given a chance. He hasn't even played a game for us. Surrounded by better players in a better team who knows. He's South African captain for a reason when there could be plenty of other choices (Pienaar for example).

I think it would be ridiculous to suggest we spend £6m on a 17 year old footballer unless he has amazing potential like, to say otherwise would be silly.

And therein lies the rub

Maybe, just maybe he has never played for us because management have deemed him not good enough. It is unreasonable to think he never showed enough in training so he was sent on loan?

I also remember during the season AVB specifically said he normally only works with 4 central defenders which was one of the reasons why he was ready to let Dawson ago. He did say this season he would only have 4 central defenders in his first team squad, I doubt Khumalo is good enough to be among those 4

Khumalo is 26 years old, I would rather we invest our resources in a younger potential central defender

I agree with the first sentence, not the second.

We have four CB's, they will need game time. so play two of them in the 'Capital one' cup games.
