Season Players Ratings

Gilzeantoscore

Justin Edinburgh
Right the season is over, time to assess how each player has gone according to our highly subjective judgements.

Lloris 7.5 Considering it was his first season, a very pleasing effort. Made some big saves at crucial times. Love his confidence in the box.

Friedel 6 Time is now up as far as first team action is concerned. Incompatable with a defence that adopts a high line. Too rooted to the spot.

Walker 6 Started as he finished last season. Terrible. At times he was a liability. Improved greatly toward season's end, but not great, just did not stuff up. His back pass at Anfield is seared into my memory.

Dawson 7 Clearly off the pace when he returned and he seemed hesitant and clumsy. Conceded some silly free kicks in dangerous areas too. By seasons end-Younis who?

Vertonghen 8 Could end up as important a player as Bale. Has got it all. Needs to be more consistent though.

Caulker 5.5 A work in progress, still learning, scored some handy goals, but defensively not to be trusted against the very best.

Ekkoto 6 Clearly not in the groove after a long lay off and looked rusty. Benny is a confidence player and this was clearly lacking. Back to his best in the last match. Offers something going forwrd too.

Naughton. 6 Not a left back and it showed. However a much more intelligent player than Walker. Better technique too.

Lennon. 6.5 Played beautifully in spurts. Disappeared in too many games. Needs to be more demanding of the ball and must carry the ball into the box more. Seems to have lost his mojo re going past players.

Dembele 5.5 I am not a fan. What does he do? Are you Jenas in disguise. Looks as smooth as silk, but impact?

Parker 6 Another player who struggled to regain his form from last season. He is not a ball carrier. Needs to get back too what he does best. Breaking up the play and making a simple pass to someone with more passing ability.

Sandro 7.5 Not the world beater many would have you believe, but an important player all the same. Knows his limitations.

Huddlestone 6 Pretty good, given how little first team action he had. Needs work.

Holtby 6 Showed glimpses, but the pace of the PL caught him out I think. Will be a better player next year for the experience.

Siggurdson 5.5 Apart from the goal against Chelsea, something of a nearly man.

Dempsey 6 Could not tell he was on the pitch for many games, but in contrast with Siggy he got a decent haul of goals and they were usually important ones too.

Defoe. 6.5 Started off like a house on fire, but then injury struck. Something much ignored has been his poor injury record. Not consistent enough.

Bale 10 How could I forget him. Greatest season performance I have ever seen and that goes back to 1967.

Adebayor 4 The same rating as his goal tally. Not good enough and sorry, strikers are meant to score and not just hold up the ball, not that he did that well either. Passion, seemed to be gone, apart from the last three games.

Not bothered to rate players with too few stats. livermore etc.

Hahaha can't believe you missed Bale off!

Oh and i'd largely agree with those ratings but I think you're being super harsh on Dembele. I'd give him a 7.5 - I think he's been impressive in his first season. I think Sandro's injury didn't do him any favours as he was clearly asked to play a more limited role since then. When Sandro was in the team the pair of them looked like they could steam-roller teams. In the first half v Man U at Old Trafford they completely dominated United's midfield.

Goalkeepers
Lloris - 7 = Has been good and looks like he'll only get better.
Friedel - 6.5 = Was our best player in the early parts of the season and has generally looked very solid when called upon.

Defenders
Walker - 5.5 = Has looked clumsy and has also gone backwards in terms of development. Has cost us a few occasions with his lapses of concentration. Would have got a 5 had it not been for his strong end of season finish.
Vertonghen - 8 = I really like him. A classy Centre back that has done well.
Dawson - 7 = Looked like his spurs career was over but he didn't moan or anything. Has performed well.
Caulker - 5.5 = Looks ok i guess but i don't feel comfortable with him at the back. You rarelys ee him during a game but when you do it's usually something bad. Has age on his side.
Gallas - 5.5 = Think it's the end for Gallas. Been injured and hasn't looked that good when he has played.
Ekotto - 6 = Hasn't performed like last season. Love BAE but don't think AVB is a fan.
Naughton - 6 = Has looked solid when called upon. Should be here next season as backup.

Midfielders
Lennon - 6.5 = Minus a purple patch midway through the season he's been pretty hit and miss. Bit of a dissapointing season generally for Azza tbh.
Dembele - 7.5 = I like the look of Mousa. Has potential to be an excellent player but needs to pose a bigger attacking threat.
Sandro - 8.5 = Was our best player before he got injured. Such a shame he got injured when he did.
Parker - 6 = Playing a new role that doesn't suit him imo. Would have performed better in his normal DM role.
Huddlestone - 5 = Apparently he looked good lately..to me he looks slow.
Sigurdsson - 6.5 = I think he would have got a 7 had he played more games. Performed well for the most part.

Attackers
Bale - 9 = Magnificent and constantly saved our asses.
Dempsey - 6 = In terms of goals and assists he's had a productive season but in terms of what i see with my eyes? he goes missing a lot.
Adebayor - 5 = A big dissapointment minus the end of the season.
Defoe - 6 = Only gets a 6 rating due to his first half of the season. Second half he was donkey tinkle.

Lloris 8 - looks very assured, Friedel was very good last season but Lloris looks a notch above him. #1 for years to come!
Friedel 6.5[/B] generally did Ok when called upon but as stated above the defense looked better with Lloris
Walker 6 Had some dodgy moments but overall pretty solid especially towards the end of the season. I don't think he got as involved going forward has he did last year
Naughton 6 Not much of a threat going forward but he was decent cover and did a good job filling in for BAE out of position
Dawson 8 His best season for us in years thank GHod we didn't sell him to QPR we would have been in major trouble
Vertonghen 9 Hard to imagine a defender having a better debut season with us. Oozes class and versatility
Gallas 4 very poor past it
Caulker 6 Started off the season strong but seemed to struggle as the season wore on. Promising prospect though
Assou-Ekotto 5.5 not a great season by his standards, in and out of form and seemed to lack focus at times
Lennon 5.5 we looked better when he played because we kept a better shape but too many matches he failed to make an impact think we should find some competition for him next season (maybe Townsend)
Siggurdson - 5 never really got going. Clearly he has ability but struggled often times
Holtby 5 similar to Siggy looks a good player which we haven't seen the best of yet. always tough for him to come in midseason
Dempsey 7 provided vital goals and assists, asked to play several different positions and always worked hard for the team good debut season, brilliant squad option to have
Huddlestone 4 looked awful and unfit for 80% of the season. Credit to him for having a nice run of form towards the end when we need it but still as a season very disappointing
Dembele 7 would have been even higher if it weren't for his injuries and dip of form in second half of season. Still looks a real player who could get even better
Sandro 8 when he played he was great, we really missed him after his injury
Parker 5 compared to last season really was a poor year for Scotty. If we get a decent offer in the summer I think he will be off
Carroll Incomplete thought he deserved more opportunities. Some highly impressive cameos
Livermore 4 didn't play much and when he did really looked a liability big step back after last season
Bale 10 world class
Defoe 6 had brilliant run to start season then injuries really seemed to bother him, still looks a threat and a useful player
Adebayor 4 may be generous because last few weeks has been outstanding. Again though as a season it really was a disaster with Ade if he played like he did last few matches all year we may have challened for 2nd

Lloris 8 - Best keeper of my lifetime
Friedel 6 - Solid, but not pro-active enough for our new system

Walker 6 - Dodgy start but recovered and found his feet. 'Difficult second season syndrome'
Dawson 7 - Came back from the brink and proved his doubters wrong
Vertonghen 9 - World class. Please stay away Barca
Caulker 6 - Another 'difficult second season'
Gallas 5 - Legs went
Ekkoto 6 - Never recovered/integrated back in after long injury lay-off. Think he deserves another season to find his form again
Naughton 5 - Don't think he's good enough

Lennon 7 - Better than Bale before xmas. Too long to hit stride again after injuries
Sandro 8 - Player of the season till his injury
Dembele 7 - Superb until we lost Sanrdo. Suspect he was carrying that hip injury and will now have an op on it
Holtby 6 - Loved his drive, but lacks maturity
Siggurdson 6 - Settled in slowest of the new boys, but promising signs in the last 1/3
Parker 6 - Slow start and doesn't suit possession football
Huddlestone 6 - A few great cameos, but too Hollywood/Stevie Me with his passing for our new system
Livermore 5 - Don't think he's good enough
Carroll 6 - Big strides, especially in his UEFA appearances
Dempsey 7 - Ugly, but very effective
Bale 10 - Best solo season performance since Ginola

Defoe 5 - Out of his depth
Adebayor 5 - Shocker, until the last few games. Has AVB finally fixed him, or was it just shop window performances?

Actually pretty fair assessment, probably give JD a 5.5 or 6, simply because while both or strikers have had a poor season, JD contributed more.

Lennon better than Bale before Christmas :ross: :ross: :ross:

Seriously guys, I know you like your little Aaron Lennon but come on! If he did 10% of what Bale does for us, we`d be in the top 2.

Not trying to justify the point, but my view

- Lennon was more "in form" than Bale in 1st half of season
- Bale was struggling (and still does occasionally) with positioning, while Lennon provided the width that stretched the game enough to give a lot of our players opportunities.

Bale is a way better player than Lennon, doesn't mean Lennon isn't impactful and/or important to the side, as well as capable of outplaying Bale on the day or for a stretch of matches.

If it was humanly possible for Bale to contribute 10x what Lennon does we'd win the league.

Goalkeepers

Lloris - 8 - The best goalkeeper in my lifetime. Commands the box, makes comfortable saves because his position is great. Needs to work on distribution though.

Friedel - 7 - I think when called upon he has been solid, a great back up to have and would like for him to stay on and be a coach when he retires.

Defenders

Walker - 6 - Was very poor the first 3/4 of the season but he came on strong at the end with solid performances. I hope he gets his head down and improves over the summer.

Vertonghen - 8 - Got into the Team of the Year and rightly so, very good buy, so cool and calm on the ball and his timing and reading is superb, will only get better.

Dawson - 7 - I was in the crowd that wanted him gone in the summer and I am glad I ate some humble pie, solid this season, I love his passion and the heart he has for the club.

Caulker - 6 - I think at times he's looked solid. His performance away at Old Trafford was monstrous, he's a beast in the air, he will improve as he gets older, I am sure of it.

Gallas - 5 - This should be his last season in football. So many times he looked like he had pulled muscles in his legs, time to go, thanks for the memories Willy!

Ekotto - 6 - Certainly not his best year. I actually think Bales emergence has hindered Ekotto. They were a brilliant partnership down the left. Think we will upgrade in the summer.

Naughton - 6 - I am a fan, just not at left back. I think he is actually a clever footballer, at times I've seen him pull off some really smart passes, happy for him to be here as back up.

Midfielders

Lennon - 6.5 - He was great at the start of the season, suffered with injuries but I do feel he needs proper competition, Townsend will provide that next year as well as a new signing perhaps.

Dembele - 7.5 - A great debut season for him, I think he'd flourish in a midfield three with Sandro and a creative midfielder too. I'd like to see him shoot more because he has wonderful technique.

Sandro - 8.5 - Before his injury he was quite easily our best player, his partnership with Dembele in the middle was one of the best in the league, Can't wait to have him back next year. Love him.

Parker - 6 - Certainly not at the same heights as last year as expected. He seemed to play further forward this year, not his game. I think Modric was an ideal partner for him. I personally wouldn't mind him here next year as back up.

Huddlestone - 5 - Looked great in glimpses but showed our proper lack in depth when he was getting games alongside Parker when we had players out. He should be used late when we can't break teams down, Upgrade in the summer.

Sigurdsson - 7 - I'm going to give Siggy a surprising 7 actually. I think he has done well. Whenever he had come on as a sub, I thought he always added something. He is hard working, has great vision and a great eye for goal, will improve.

Attackers

Bale - 9 - Will he better this season? I hope he can. I don't think he deserves a 10, that would have required consistancy ALL season, winning us more games than he did etc. In fact only two players in the world could probably get a 10.

Dempsey - 7 - Smart buy in my view, he knows where the back of the net is, always in the right place at the right time. Imagine if we had gone in the season without Dempsey and had to rely on just Defoe and Ade for goals (as well as Bale)? Dempsey gave us some great moments this year.

Adebayor - 5 - Real terrible at times, I hope we can offload him in the summer but I do think it will be tricky. If he can show us next year his form from last season and the past 3 games then I'd be more than happy for him to stay.

Defoe - 5.5 - He only gets a mark higher than Ade because he contributed more throughout the season in terms of goals. Would still sell him in the summer if we get replacements in.

BALE 10 - phenomenal all season

Dembele 8 - impressive debut season for us

Sandro 8 - beast

Verthonghen 8 - tackles like King / Mackay / Mabbutt / Gough / Roberts all rolled into one, can also pass AND score.

Dawson 7 - showed leadership, never knows when he's beaten

Lennon 7 - not his best-ever season for us but a key influence up front and in supporting our defence

Defoe 7 - prolific goalscorer in first half of season but hampered by loss of fitness and form in the second

Walker 6 - seems mean to give him only a 6 following such an impressive second half of the season but he still needs to improve his passing and positional play

Parker 6 - has lost some of his tigerishness and his passing can be woeful, even so he played his part

Lloris 6 - looked at one point as though he could become a colossus for us but became less and less dominant as the season progressed

BAE 6 - seemed to lose motivation and concentration as the season wore on

Caulker 6 - looks in need of more experience before he can command a regular first team spot

Dempsey 6 - took a long time to get going but increasingly looked the part as the season progressed

Sigurdsson 6 - see Dempsey.

Holtby 6 - fitful but showed he has the ability to find a pass and strike a ball

Gallas 5 - mark may be a tad harsh because occasionally he looked impressive but overall, time has taken its toll

Huddlestone 5 - sad to have to award this classy midfielder only a five but reality is until the latter stages of the season he too often looked like an overweight donkey

Adebayor 4 - despite a strong finish to the season there were previously far too many games when he just did not show

Naughton 4 - has talent but was played out of position at LB so we have yet to see what he can really do

Bit part players

Carroll 7 - like Holtby he has an eye for a pass as well as oodles of energy

Friedel 6 - performed well until losing his place to Lloris but then his form suffered from lack of regular game time

Livermore 5 - never really managed to stamp authority

Kane, Falque, Townsend, et al, not enough game time to grade
