Chairman's message

How do you read into this

we will "attempt" means try.

thats not the statement in the modric summer. i.e No matter what the cost we will NOT , categorically NOT be selling our best players etc etc etc

that summer i won a lot of money against people that thought levy would cave

message from the fans to the chairman.......

SIGN SOME TOP STRIKERS

thank you

we shall continue to seek to strengthen and improve the team and to retain key players

Like i told danish. i prefer the

we will NOT sell anyone of note no matter the cost at all this summer. that one says to me categorically no one is leaving....not that sweeping general statement

of course you will always seek to strengthen and
seek to improve the team and
seek to retain key players.

just say no one is leaving...PERIOD!!!

Well that would be a silly thing to say, because some player quite obviously will be leaving.

you and your pedantic sniffer hound LOL

okay fine

use the post where i say Key players then, or even the part of the post says "players of note" (i would have imagined most people would have known what i was talking about LOL)...not the last line in the last post;)

It would still be a silly thing to say. You don't use absolutes in a business where anything could happen.

in which case you dont know our boss

i knew no matter what was going down we were NOT selling our best players that summer. i knew it...no one was leaving

i have that much faith in levy knowing what was going down when he held all the cards. i wish we could dig into the archives...everyone worrying about that chelsea onslaught...i never budged once. like i said...won a bit of lunch money that summer

if levy makes a statement like that again...you might feel its a silly thing to say, but as a spurs fan i loved him for it. #

it was principle over capital

edit:- i just realised that you think levy was stupid for saying that in that summer. and i think thats definitely a thing with some of us spurs fans. that we will buckle under pressure at some point

i dont know what it was , but that summer i was ready cause i knew my teams controller was TRULY fighting my corner, and the corner for the little guy

top strikers have inflated costs.....not gonna happen i dont think. best chance is to get someone in his last year

i agree that top strikers cost a lot.....the club has to decide if its prepared to go that extra mile

Do not make promises you cannot keep. The reason we would both love to hear that from Levy is because we would trust those words.

I don't think that our chances of keeping Bale is affected much by what statements he makes. If he doesn't feel comfortable saying that he won't be sold because he doesn't feel it's a sure enough thing that he's staying then saying that he's definitely staying won't change that, nor will it change the media speculation or lessen interest from other clubs imo.

thats my point though, him not saying it , to me , shows a level of uncertainty

that year chelsea came after modric...BOTH modric and chelsea applied some pressure on us. the man held his ground....he made a promise and he kept it man. Couldnt have been prouder that summer. and other fans said the same thing, never mind how "silly" our own fans think it was for our chairman protecting our own best players.

the fact he doesnt promise anything means to me that we will be under some pressure and a bit of a dog fight, where we might consider things if it is tempting enough

So the fact he tells the truth bothers you?

I know. And that's the situation we find ourselves in, as Levy seemingly honestly describes it. I would rather have that honesty than empty promises.

If he promised something today all it would do would create a load of headlines "Levy blocks Bale move" etc.
We dont need that brick. The Bale 'story' at the moment is 100% media.
Bale doesnt want to go anywhere yet.
Until then Levy has no need to promise anything and start a conflict with Bale.
Hopefully he drawing up a new contract for Bale to sign.

its not about empty promises , its just me stating that the lack of a categorical statement, unfortunately, says a lot. my response is to people using hints as declaration mate

but while we are on the subject , a good topic to discuss would be...
what is the difference between him refusing to sell in that modric summer and this summer? why not make that statement now as well? with the same will and steel resolve as he had that year?
