in your opinion he is mediocre, but AVB obviously thinks enough of him to go and personally check him out. Im sure a dvd freak, stats nut like AVB could easily compile enough info on Hooper without having to travel up to Glasgow in the middle of a bleak winter to watch him live.

I think there is such a pro AVB sentiment on here that if AVB wanted to bring Rasiak and Fraizer Campbell back, some of you would be all for it.

Or, alternatively, it might just be the case that AVB knows and understands a little more than you do about football generally and, more specifically, what kind of player will serve his squad well.

Radical theory, I concede.

Every manager buys flops.

I was happy when AVB when he was appointed and still am.
But the is a general feeling on here that he's infallible now or something.

Redknapp's future transfers were debated tirelessly on here but with AVB its a case of "how dare you question the all knowing scouting oracle".

Who's stopping you from debating? That's what we're doing, isn't it?

I've already asked once (on page 2 I think). There are plenty of threads discussing the past and current managers' transfer policies, please do not turn this into another one. I will delete any more posts like this which are posted in this thread.

No. On players i have not seen i will trust the manager, because he will have put in the time and effort to check them out.

Though i suppose it's more trust in the transfer committee than just AVB then.

Why would i judge players i have not seen?

Madness!

Edit I also said it in response to someone saying the Scottish league was entirely tinkle poor so it was not worth signing players from there, despite the point that they don't watch scottish football and haven't really watched the player in question.

no, its just you have a bee in your bonnet about Spurs not blowing 25 mill on a striker. Get over it. Until we get a new stadium, i doubt much will change.

If we managed our money better we could get a 25m striker.
In the same time we wasted 81m on 2nd tier strikers, United spend under 80m on 9 strikers. Their philosophy was to spend big on the main striker (Berbatov, RVP) and then spend 5 or 6m on talented young player (occasionally fudging up). But they haven't gone near a mid range 8 - 20m striker in the last 7 years.
