Hooper (a Harlow lad, like Glenn Hoddle) has done very well indeed up in Scotchland and given the January transfer window is very limited, he ticks all the right boxes for us.

Spurs kid. Point to prove. Scores goals wherever he has been. Fresh face.

If he's not expensive, then what's the problem? I don't see one. You need those fresh faces and added names in my opinion to push on. Pavlyuchenko provided it in 2010. Jelavic provided it for Everton last season when they missed a goal scorer, Cisse for Saudi Sportswashing Machine too was keeping there hopes alive. I think Hooper could be a good signing. If it doesn't end up working out, I am sure someone out there, probably Celtic, who would re-sign him.

I've seen him a few times and he's looked pretty meh to me. I thought we've moved on from these sorts of players since Arry left?

Oh he's 5'9 according to Wiki...maybe him and Defoe can alternate climbing on eachothers shoulders when contesting a header.

I don't think the manager makes much of a difference on who we're looking to buy.

That's my point which is why i always found it funny that people continuously blamed Redknapp for the Saha/Nelsen signings. it was obvious that Arry desperately thought we needed reinforcements in January and when Levy said there's no money he settled for those two rather then buy nobody. Even now when players like Kenywne Jones is linked you see posts like "AVB wouldn't want that" "AVB isn't Arry" etc etc.....in reality he'll get what he's given and he'll nod his head and accept it.

But throughout history, there are examples of managers who have "walked" because of exactly this situation. i.e the board/chairman not supplying or releasing the funds.

Do you not think AVB would do the same, given that his (somewhat fragile) reputation was on the line?
