The London Taxpayers' Stadium Shambles

Re: O/T West Ham Named Olympic Stadium Preferred Bidders

Eh, there's still likely to be a large number of appeals and the like to go through.

Re: O/T West Ham Named Olympic Stadium Preferred Bidders

They will have to deal with the running track for the next 500 years or something won't they? because of the fuss we made?

Also, what's going to happen to Upton Park? I hope they sell/demolish it before they realise how brick the Olympic Stadium is gonna be for football.

Re: O/T West Ham Named Olympic Stadium Preferred Bidders

Shame if it goes through, Upton Park is a nice ground - which is suited to football!

Re: O/T West Ham Named Olympic Stadium Preferred Bidders

yeah say what you like about west ham but for the most part they are a proper club with proper fans that actually sing. The thought of them moving to a souless athletics stadium is a bit sad 2bh. I like watching games at Upton Park and i like the atmosphere they generate there.

They have to keep the athletics track - well what is the point of playing football in a non-football stadium. Just the porn kings wanting to fleece their fans for more money regardless of what they think or feel.

Re: O/T West Ham Named Olympic Stadium Preferred Bidders

How much Athletics will the stadium be used for? If they have retractable seating used for say 30 football games a year but only 1 athletics meeting in July/August that's a bit of my favourite buttplug ain't it? Or will the track be used as a training centre for UK athletes?

Re: O/T West Ham Named Olympic Stadium Preferred Bidders

London have bidded for the 2017 athletics championships with the Olympic Stadium central to that bid as well as other things

Kind of my point.. They have to keep the athletics track just in case we win an Athletics competition. but for the other 99.9% of the time its just a rubbish half-empty stadium converted for football.

Re: O/T West Ham Named Olympic Stadium Preferred Bidders

They can have it. We should never have bid for it in the first place.

Still don't know why they want it when they can't even fill The Boleyn Ground.

Re: O/T West Ham Named Olympic Stadium Preferred Bidders

Now they just need to try and not get relegated for the next 3 seasons lol

ironically Levy's initial bid - where there would be a true home for athletics where people could train daily - was far better for athletics.

I just can't see how you can put seating in across the track without digging down, or rebuilding the stadium completely.

Re: O/T West Ham Named Olympic Stadium Preferred Bidders

It's only as preferred bidder. I was reading something earlier about Boris wanting to add conditions so any profit from selling West Ham is shared. The owners might not be so happy about that. They also haven't settled on how much West Ham must contribute to the renovations.

Edit: West Ham Olympic Stadium deal would include profit share West Ham United’s owners will have to pay a share of any profits they make should they sell the club after their expected move to the Olympic Stadium.

Makes me laugh they are paying £15m towards it the rest comes £165m from the Govt and Newham Council...

Not if enough Tax paying Londoners moan, or tax payers in general.

Its ridiculous that amount, the stadium build of the Olympic stadium was said to be 100m.

IMO they should be made to pay the whole amount. If they cannot they should knock it down, recycle what they can, and build more housing.

A private company is getting a huge hand out for nothing. Is that not allowed in EU law.

For me this isn't about football rivalry, I'd love the Hammer to move into that place, cos I would laugh every day, but as a tax payer, I don't want a private company getting handouts to the extent of 150m.

We, all non wham tax payers, really are being stitched up here. £165m to pay for a football clubs new stadium. With the odd athletics event once a year or less. Will the council or anyone get a percentage of whams gate, seeing as they built the stadium, not once, but twice?

The housing project going on around the stadium will help with filling the stadium (which is why I think we wanted it).

Whether they can keep them going after the first visit is another matter.

That's not the point. We're a north London club, not an east London club.

There were more than a few on here who were all in favour of a move to the OS & were aggressively advocating it.

Luckily for them the evidence disappeared the last time the forum blew up.
