I aint no Sheikh-but lets talk weather

In the absence of the great Sheikh a little heads up on the upcoming weather.

Well we've dodged a real cold spell for most of the winter (barely got below 9-10c where i am) but this week that massive high over most of europe (inc southern areas) has brought the first icy blast of the winter.
Originating over russia its powerful spread has pushed our usual weather pattern of too our west and we're pretty much back into the pattern of the last two winters (which btw were not typical). As it draws in that cold air and the north easterly winds get up, it feels nothing but harsh and raw.

Well the main reason for posting is the snow that looks like arriving Sat night into Sunday morning (for midlands to s-east, earlier for NW). A warmer wetter front is trying to push in from the west and as it meets that cold air, snow is almost inevitable. It could keep snowing thru sunday in the south-east. Careful with your travel plans to Anfield on Monday, hopefully it looks like the warm air will hold from london upwards which should let any snow melt.

However Mr powerful cold pressure will not be bullied and looks like (rough prediction this far out) pushing back in and if so more snow tuesday day till thursday pm. And also very cold again. If this happens any snow that has fallen (esp in the SE) will take a fair while to thaw. Anyway start clearing the shelves at your local supermarket ;)

Sheikh is alive and well currently sunning himself in Africa for a few weeks holiday and business, he did say the other day to a few of us on fb to get our thermals out

I'm going clubbing saturday night in the west end. How many layers do you think I'll need for the night bus journey home?

Not sure.

When out and about I'm still seeing dingdongheads in the street just wearing polo shirts and jeans at 3 or 4 in the morning, I don't get why you'd put yourself through it.

I can understand more with girls and the skimpy clothes and such because it's all a competition etc etc but lads? Just wear a fudging jacket, it's fudging freezing.

It's super in the mornings here, breathing through ya nose freezes any snot in there - very weird feeling :D
We should be hovering around -7/8 daytime and -16 or better at nights, so a tad chilly.

So far, the long range forecasts that I've seen have been pretty spot on. January was forecast as slightly milder than average and February has been forecast as colder than average. Can't remember where I saw that. The bit I miss from Sheikh is the long range model of jet stream etc. Those along with the break downs were fantastic.

Oh, also Ricky. Those 9 day forecasts on Snow Forecast are pretty susceptible to change. They're a pretty good indicator of general weather but I've seen them go from predicting 30cm of snow for a whole region to isolated showers over the course of just a few days... Very dissapointing when you're waiting eagle-eyed to see if you're going to have any fresh powder to ride on!

Just to say, what a massive fanny Sheikh is if he's done one due to disagreeing with folk!!

Me and him had MAJOR falling out and then exchanged PM's that were cordial....nice fella! The nature of forums is people will be less tolerant and more aggressive than in the real world, its a shame.
