Clement Lenglet

€12m apparently, 230k a week!

So £200k a week. Barca are picking up a good chunk of the wages for the loan I believe.

If he’s a success and we make it permanent he should be open to a wage reduction to about £120k a week as no one will pay him £200k unless he decides to sit on the Barca bench. He will still have three years left on his contract come next Summer I believe.

They signed him in 2018 and he must have seriously impressed as just two years into his contract they gave him a new 6 year contract presumably with the wage bump to £200k a week.

Looks reasonably risk free. Looks like we are picking up just over half the wages and the buy clause is cheap and stated as an option rather than obligation. And no loan fee mentioned.

High chance Conte can coach him back to form. A back 3 might help him.

Of course he can sit on a fat contract at Barca for another 4 years if he wants, so you'd hope he has the mindset that playing and enjoying football is more important (re:excepting a pay cut in future)

Read in one of the stories that it's a 50/50 split on the wages I think.

But yes, no chance he gets 200k from us.

I've been rethinking this.

If he is a success (eg starts really impressing like Davies), then the 10m euros will look a snip. So if we were to assess that he's worth more than twice that in market terms (ie the amount we would be prepared to pay for someone similar) then the wages are not such a problem as we would be saving on the transfer fee, when total contract cost is tallied up.

Of course we (Levy) would still squeeze him down as much as possible.

His first 2 years or so I'd say he was really good. He was part of the very rock solid looking Valverde Barca defense. That's probably where the raise came from. Anything after that period I can't speak on as I watched very little of them after 2020.

Our revenue now that we're banking full attendences at the stadium should see us able to start increasing wages - 200k for first XI players shouldn't be out of the question, whether or not Lenglet himself is worth that is a different question

Maybe a bit of perspective. Only 4 city players are paid over £150k a week. Only 3 liverpool players are paid £200k a week or more. £200k a week would make you the highest earner in serie a. Or 7th highest paid player in the bundesliga.

I don't believe that is correct.
Perhaps one has to factor in lots of other factors like "image rights" and taxes

Just to check, this is pronounced Leng-lay right?

Have heard a load of Essex types calling him Leng LeTT

Are you saying the juvenile amphibians are frog lays?

I feel seen.

(picks up the label “Essex type” and wears it as a badge of honour)
