Richarlison

A big piece of the puzzle in place hopefully. We got lucky last season with Son and Kane fit and firing. Now we have another forward who's responsible, experienced and you know will lead if needed. Plus he could play with Son and Kane. It wasn't an easy spot to fill. We've had all manner of dross without getting proper cover in. So now we potentially have cover and a complimentary player.

Assuming Bergwijn goes it gives us Son, Kane, Kulu, Richarlison & Lucas as front line choices.

Add in the extra midfielders (Bentancur, Bissouma, PEH, Skipp), we could easily go 3-5-2 as well, lots of options

Our best backup striker option in how long?

He's not a backup striker, though. It's 4 players of equal quality, who will get rotated in the 3 forward positions.

I agree with the overall point you're making I think.

Disagree that they're of equal quality.

I do also think we can talk about Richarlison as a backup striker, even though he is also more than that. Kane is a better striker and player, by some distance. Richarlison will probably be his backup, but also much more than just his backup.

stretching it with equal quality but it's certainly 4 players who you would be confident in starting any game, with a decent enough back up on top of that. I would like to see us progress to a point where we have 5 + 1 though to really push on

Agree with you. I like Kulu, and very different style of player to Richalison, but in terms of ability I think Richarlison is probably better

That said, the great thing about this signing, assuming it happens, is as you say he can rotate with any of our current 3 with no discernible drop in performance whichever 3 are picked

Said it when we were first linked, will say it again. Great signing. Young, proven Premier League quality. Yeah he's a brickhouse and rolls around too much but he's so much better than the other forwards we've brought in in recent years to play back up/compliment Son and Kane. A lot of us were big fans of Vinicius who was the best of that motley crue. Richarlison is a couple of levels above him.

Well done the club. This is almost like when the Dippers brought in Jota. Not yet at the level to be an automatic starter but certainly very close and he will only get better.

When was the last time we had 3 top tier forwards with proven premier league experience at the same time? Was it Keane Berba and Defoe?
We also had Defoe, Crouch, Ade and Pavlyuchenko at the same time i believe.

But fudge me sideways, we're going places this transfer window! Word from Spain that we're back in for Kounde, with Ndombele possibly going the other way.
