Transfer thread

Do you think the boys from Italy are trying to sign two more players before pre-season starts?

1 x LCB
1 x Forward

Players who can come in and improve the starting 11 (that is extremely hard to do in the forward position). If we sign both, and shift a load of deadwood, I'd be very happy.

I think Raphinha is set on Barca, problem is they are not exactly flush with cash at the minute. I think Richarlison will be the only one that is doable. But would be ok with either really

I'd go for that. But it would be very expensive. We still have other areas that need to be strengthened. If we can great.

I think it's a bit of pipe dream but Football Manager mode sell Bergwijn 30m Moura 20m(rumoured price when linked to Juve) which then potentially covers Richarlson, which only leaves the cost of Raphina coming out of the budget.

Strengthen your weakest areas and the actual squad is significantly improved
This would do that before any other areas are added too
We do need LCB even if only for cover but upgraded the attacking options like this adds massively
Yep, all the data suggests improving your weakest area should be priority over improving the best. The Numbers Game is a great book that delves into this.

It’s why I’d upgrade the attack as a priority because the defence actually worked
Yes it can be improved but it worked
Beyond the starting 3 in attack…. It didn’t work
Change that and improve that and it’s a big plus

we need backup for the attack for rotation, injuries and succession planing.
but i believe that conte being brought up in the era of great italian defenders will improve the team from the back, so that we can throw more bodies forward without fear.

But in terms of our starting XI, wing backs need upgrading before forwards, no? Or are you taking a more holistic view of the squad and saying that the biggest benefit to us would be to fix the auxiliary forwards?

It’s an interesting debate..,

I think we’re sorted at left wing back with sess and Perisic. And at right wing back I’m happy with docherty providing he can maintain his level of performances from last season but would like to see Spence come in to compete and rotate.

So I’d agree attack is the great priority now, although I’d also like to see us get eriksen or a similar player to break down those teams that sit back against us

My issue is the downgrade in attack from our favoured front 3 if one is out is massive… it’s less so everywhere else
I agree that we are blessed with the Kane, son, kulu combo but we have to be abel to give them a rest or cover to keep them peak
The drop to moura is notable
We have no one else soon with Bergwein leaving
It’s quite scary and IMO a huge risk
Imagine a business not supporting their best performers and letting them “blow out”…

I'm sure we'll upgrade both areas and lcb.

We made top 4, we secured CL last season despite a disastrous start because

- We upgraded the starting 11, not the bench (bench was super light by end of season)
- Romero, Bentancur & Kulu was the difference, for the first time in ages our transfer window changed the first 11.

While I understand your point of view, not sure I agree.

- A Starting RWB and upgrade on Davies in LCB along with Perisic & Bissouma means we could actually add another 4 starters to the team (almost 7 in Conte era, the refresh everyone has talked about for years)

That said, I think you will get both

- Spence looks a done deal
- Bergwijn, Winks and Lo Celso all have buyers, probably Rodon as well, add the CCV money, regular transfer budget and we aren't even close to touching the £150M
- I'd expect the expense will be in the back line and front line additions.

Remember we bought romero. £44m. Signing on fees, agent fees also add up especially for free transfers.

But agree we should get 3 more in possibly 4.
