The Goon Thread - Officially Second In A One Horse Race

despise them.

I think they've made some good squad signings but not much there screams First XI. Vieira could be great but not many players at that age move to the PL and nail it first season.

If they get Jesus and Raphina, that would definitely change things. But I expect us to do similar business and improve our XI, just need to make sure that gap continues to remain with quality signings.

Curious as to how much they're potentially looking to spend this summer, especially after spending the most in the Prem last season.

(I know it's silly season...)

They're currently linked with:

£50m Jesus
£60m Raphina
£25m on Tielemans
£35m Lisandro Martinez

and they've spent £40m on this Vieira kid, the yank keeper and the Brazilian kid already.

Can't see anyone in their squad they can sell that will help recoup any of this money either, unless they sell Saka...

Seems a bit risky.

If they buy Raphinha that means Saka isn't signing a new contract imo. Unless they're planning to play Raphinha in a left CM role (as a Xhaka replacement), mirroring Odegaard on the right. Which would be a gamble with his lack of experience there. If they're planning to have them both then that's a waste of resources having two of your top players in the same position.

Modric was tough. Got lumps kicked out of him in eastern europe. Still had to adjust. This kid might, but even porto left him out of their tough games.

thats the thing. Arsenal fans raving like he'll be an automatic first team XI, but last season he was benched for several big games/CL games. Might turn incredible in a few years time, but doubtful it will happen overnight.

Fair call
That’s £200m
That’s more than last season

22 and not had a call up to portugal yet. Think the press might be over egging him.

Of course, but interesting that these seem to be the strongest links they have at the moment.

They need serious depth added to that squad now with Europa League.
Yep
It’s something their fans haven’t fathomed
You can buy some great players but NO players have ever done what’s needed this season because of the WC being mid season
Throw in Europe to a “young side” and they need a LOT of bodies

Ramsdale
Tomiayshu White Martinez Tierney
Partey
Tielemens Odegard
Raphina Jesus Saka
Seems to be what their fans expect to see next season if they're rumouredtargets come in - not a bad side that with some decent players in reserve and you'd have to say no more excuses for Arteta regarding top 4.

*Though i suspect if they sign Raphina it might mean Saka is heading to City, which slightly weakens the front 3 above by bringing in Martinelli in his place.

I think it could well be that 3rd & 4th will be a 3 way fight between us 2 and Chelsea

All and good but no team can put their best 11 out more than 15 times a season. Its the back up that is key; the issue that was nearly our downfall last season.

That team is so unbalanced. Be great going forward, but a team hitting them on the counter would rip them apart.
