Evan Ndicka

Calling him a flop is crazy talk. Slow start yes, disappointing even yes (although not for me as I felt he was playing well anyway at the time).

Lukaku is a flop because he was bought for 100m and is a high profile player. Son was an under the radar signing, no one but those that had paid attention to him expected much.

Not sure about that. £22m was huge back then - the third biggest signing in our history at that point (after Soldado and Lamela)

flop is so silly to say after his initial start. he was good but now it’s immense. good to show hope players need time to settle and how quick some (I at times are guilty also) too make stupid judgements

I don’t think many people made judgements because he didn’t IMO come with much expectation
Hence him having his worst season in his senior career I believe in his first one he flopped.
Remember Henderson when he joined pool for big money … he flopped
Players can have a poor start to joining a club and then excel after settling in. It doesn’t mean their careers have been a flop but in isolation that season was a very very poor one by their own standards
And those standards are what made a club buy them too
For context was soldado a flop?
His first season he got a better return than son did in his first I believe . Slightly different roles of course and the progression with Son has been immense

And again for context the conversation was about what players settle best joining the prem from a certain league

Anyway this isn't a son thread. So hincape or Ndicka?
Either
Both could be progressive types and get better here
Neither would IMO be immediately better than Davies but that’s possibly a good thing as they could settle in
What I like is the fact that the are not the finished articles. Both on paper seem to have scope to get better and better and that’s the kind of signing we have traditionally had most success with

Fair enough. But for centre backs we've done well with bring in fairly experienced. Vertonghen, alderweireld, gallas...

Actually verts had only really played at one club and was 24 IIRC when we signed him so not at his peak
Toby had that flop season at Atketico so he wasn’t as desirable as he became here for us
Galas was experienced but was IMO on his way down

They had more experience than Ndicka and hincapie.

In some aspects for sure
Both of these have have moved country to play (I think both Toby and Jan came through at Ajax) which means they have already made an overseas move which is important to judge a player on

I'm not going to judge either of them, i've not seen them play. If conte and paratici think they're ready great.

Son was a flop
Luckily he turned it round to show his true talent
Poch used Son more sparingly compared to Kane who was one of the starting eleven no matter what. Poch wasn't fond of player rotation.

Unlike Conte, who brings players on at the hour mark decisively. With 5 subs the game will favour the coaches with the widest range of tactical changes. I think Conte tinkers a lot with the team and will give more playing time to new joiners. I wonder if Son would have turned out differently if we had Conte then. After all anyone could see he was double footed and already doing great in Germany.

From what i can gather he would be a potential signing rather than a first team signing - Bundesliga team of the season though so not too far away i guess

That would be my guess too. Not a lot of potential targets that come in and make themselves a clear upgrade on Davies. If we can't get Bastoni/whoever that may do that a player ready to be an option that may step up significantly over a year or two would be a very good plan.

Haven't seen him play, but from what I've read he seems like he would be a good signing.

Toby competed with arguably the best CB pairing in the world at that time! And he still got quite a few games!
