It's been a source of some confusion to me for a while that we've been so lacking in attacking intent in tests. I love cricket and have done all my life, so I understand completely the differences between white and red ball versions, but if you look at the great majority of the tests we have lost in the Root era (sadly for him despite being a truly sensational batter he's going to be remembered as Captain Batting Collapse) an injection of even an hour or two of bairstow/stokes/buttler/ 's natural game would have swung both the match and the mood. We've been abject to watch for years and have ended a lot of promising young careers (Hameed for instance has never looked the same) though over pragmatism.

100 runs in 10 overs (or more) will change any match, of any type. If you want to revert back to 2-3 runs an over afterwards, by all means do it, but we've had a wealth of big hitters who were not given the support or the platform to drag us into a match.

Not sure what to make of this Dutch game, on one hand it’s a complete mis-match, bullying, tough to watch and on the other hand it’s the only way these teams will get better, by playing the likes of England.

Mental Broad just went for 35 runs in an over, now has the highest conceded in an over in tests and ODIs - both against India as well.

England have some work to do batting wise today
Terrible shots from Lees, Crawley and Pope, credit to India's bowlers though

This lunch time analysis with Butcher and KP is excellent, I don’t often agree with KP but think he’s nailing it.

Stokes is too good a player to play so recklessly, it devalues his wicket.
