Yves Bissouma

Looks an ideal complementary pairing

Then the forward passes and long passes will have to come from the CBs

Bissouma is good at dribbling. Top 10% in the top 5 leagues for midfield. Bentancurs stats will be effected by his role with juve aswell. Not sure if it was his job to pass progressively. Seemed to do alright with us from what i saw.

Bentancur is decisive with his passing as seen against Norwich. He seems to be able to know what he wants to do with the ball when he receives it and is capable of playing an excellent first time pass.

We struggled with teams that sat back and defended hard, even with Kulu and Benta. One string lacking in the team's bow is a long pass from our half like how Toby used to... we scored many like that.

With Bissouma who will no doubt strength the centre of the pitch, it makes even more sense now to find a new CB who can spray from deep. Especially if we don't get a creative midfield who can add new penetration options.

It does seem to be what we've been looking at. Whether bastoni, torres, gvardiol, lenglet... see who we end up with.

I think that is by design.

Of course if we could find a player that's great defensively and a true deep playmaker that would be better, but hard to find those. Midfield has to be defensively solid. Defenders have to be good ball playing centre backs.

Usually less congested and a bit more space for defenders on the ball, easier to be good enough or very good there than in midfield. And ball playing centre backs are fairly gettable, deep playmakers that are also great defensively are gold dust.

Teams that sit back are happy for long balls to be hit as there is no space to play them into. Long balls are more effective against the likes of Liverpool who play high and press leaving tons of space in behind. It's why Klopp constantly cries about teams that play that way.
Conte uses the WBs to stretch teams and create chances that way against teams that sit deep.

Agree. It's cross field long balls you need, use that horizontal width if the vertical space isn't there.

We could see a vast improvement with better WBs (or better integrated ones) regardless of CH and CM improvements.

Major debates now about the morality of the signing, TBH not even looked back on here but maybe been covered, but twitter seems rife with it today. Plenty saying they feel he should not have been signed.

Similar to when we had Rose & Walker as starting full backs - we had a great record in the bread and butter games
