The Centre Back thread

So what do we think about bremer as being the main alternative to bastoni. Is this just a leak to get inter to put pressure on bastoni as they seem to love bremer.

For us he is not left footed so not sure what our plan is unless we are able to get him quite cheap and then get another with him. For some reason it seems inter can get bremer for about €25m but for others the price might be more?

Depends what conte wants. If it's creating chances from the back bastoni and gvardiol give that. Not so much bremer.

So probably a pressure tactic as the lure for inter flipping bastoni for bremer with about €30m change is too appealing.

But on the other hand if we can get bremer for €25m then that is such a bargain that we must do it and still can then afford a gvardiol for example.

It seems bremer has some agreement to leave torino on the cheap.

I believe we will get bastoni or if he really digs his heels in I think we will end up with bremer and gvardiol. Although the latter scenario is more fraught with problems as I suspect chelsea will challenge us for at least one if not both.

Can't see gvardiol as much as i'd want him. Really think he could become the best defender in the world. Madrid seems to think so too. Only 20 though.

So perhaps the alternative plan then is to get bremer on the cheap and then buy the third best left centre back option after bastoni and gvardiol.

Any idea who the third best option at left centre back would be?

Don't see anyone but a LCB coming in, Conte loves Dier and Romero and also feel Sanchez is a great replacement. Ultimately there are three RCBs that could interchange if needed versus 1 LCB. Bastoni or bust I think

Who would be fourth best considering man utd appear to be very keen on him.

Maybe Guehi at Palace but he will cost £60m probably.

As we go further down this list there is inevitably going to be a drop off in quality, which is why I think we will sign someone in that role who is a bit better than davies (so we have some competition and options in the role) and then also buy bremer.

So it will either be:

bastoni, dier, romero
davies, sanchez, tanganga

or

A slightly better davies, bremer, romero
davies, dier, sanchez

Bremer has been playing LCB in a 3 this season. Not central
He is right footed though

Ah that’s interesting as he got defender of the season playing that role.

Slight downside is that he is less progressive than bastoni I believe but still would be a great addition for that role.

Hopefully we are able to get bremer without any issues if bastoni doesn’t happen.

Passing isnt his strength
Tackling and defending is
Imagine a weaker version of ark euro but equally aggressive
He is a good player and possibly would be a better ball player with better options around him
Singo at Torino is one we will go for IMO if we dont get DJed Spence. He could be anything and is a bit of a bonkers player in that he is everywhere down the right and just in that upwards curve which is key for any signing.
He can play central by the way but so can Bastoni
I wanted Bastoni last year as he was such a good fit for our side
I’ll add about Bremer… I didnt think Romero could pass so I could easily be a poor judge in that front. Romero played central at Atlanta in an inverted 3 (2 CBS either side and behind him with him the aggressor). Him and Bremer would be absolutely aggressive everywhere
If we wanted a more Bastoni type of go for Lopez who is similar just not as good at the physical stuff IMO

LCB Bremer - CCB Romero - RCB Royal

for me.

That would have these huts playing to their full strengths.
Romero has good passing range and Royal is the best at getting stuck in without giving away fouls.

Looking promising on bastoni though. I posted his agents comments in his thread.

Bremer isn't an LCB though, is he?

Whoscored have Bremer down as playing this season as a CCB and a guy called Ricardo Rodriguez playing as LCB - transfermarkt have him down as right footed.

Apparently he played last season as lcb in a 3 and got defender of the season.

LCB in one system/team can be a fairly different role to a LCB role in a different one.

How do Torino play?

If passing and on the ball stuff isn't his strength as well as being right footed that's a fairly clear no thanks from me.

Difficult to look just at stats isolated from playing style, but his numbers for on the ball stuff like progressive passes, progressive carries etc compared to Ben Davies (as an example as someone good, not outstanding) are not good. (fbref). Matches well with reports about him being limited on the ball. That's not at all what we need.
