Transfer thread

I agree totally with Pirate55 as to our transfer priorities...

Two top quality wing backs would improve the first team immensely - imagine if we had Alexander-Arnold and Robertson..

Those two players would transform the team more than any other two signings... We can always look to strengthen in all areas but for the first time in a long while I am confident we will actually go for the players that the manager wants and needs...

I can't help but think back to when we had Berbatov, Keane and Defoe and then got Darren Bent as well... I think Martin jol was the manager at the time and he wanted a player in another position.... Crazy...

Money aspect of what's going on has me wondering. Seems we're really after Bastoni, assuming we complete the Romero transfer and even the Kulusevski one that's obviously a significant outlay. Not quite the 150m, but still. Waiting a year with Kulusevski and we would still have quite a bit left.

Then we're being linked with some free transfers like Peritic, some cheaper signings like Spencer. Possibly indicating that we're looking to do some free transfer deals and cheaper signings for some of our deals.

Considering outgoing players are quite likely to bring in a good chunk of money and we got into the CL. Could we be planning for another high profile expensive signing or two? Haven't seen many credible links so far for more high profile signings other than Bastoni.

Would people be satisfied with Bastoni as the only new expensive signing? Or is the expectation now that he will only be the first one this summer?

Romero (40m), Kulusevski (35m), Bastoni (55m), Spence (20m), Forster (free), Perisic (free), and possibly Eriksen (free) would be 150m altogether, assuming that the ENIC money goes to fees only. That would already be quite a good window. But according to reports, Kulusevski will remain on loan for another season, meaning we don't have to pay his fee this summer. And perhaps the Romero money is not part of the ENIC investment either. That would free up 75m, and that is without sales. Most of the remaining money will go to a CF if reports are true, but I would prefer a top creative midfielder. Rice, for me, would be spectacular, and according to what we are made to believe we should be able to afford the fee.

West ham allegedly want £150m for rice. We're not going anywhere near that.

There most likely being quite a bit of money left to spend if we can secure these initial targets seems likely to me too.

I think Rice is a no go. Great player, but getting West Ham to sell to us, not having bigger clubs swoop in and what will no doubt be an astronomical fee I think makes it impossible.

Daily Mail claiming we want 50 million rated Saint Maximin. I don't think I'd take him even if he was free, but that is an obscene amount to waste.

You rate him that little. Interesting...

I think he's a very good player, but prying one of the best players out of Saudi Sportswashing Machine right now seems like a difficult prospect. One that will probably include paying well over the top, and he's not that good, so agree we should look elsewhere.

Lets not forget the stadium brings in more than any other per annum. Think its over £100m a year. The debt is on long term low interest repayments which I think means we pay out about £30m a year paying of the debt.

So the £150m plus about £70m from the stadium after deducting debt repayments plus any sales. So we could end up with about £300m to spend.

Of course we wont spend all that in one window and we shouldn’t but by drawing down all that £150m imminently it means the coffers are swelled for all future windows, forever topped up by the yearly stadium income and any CL money and any additional sales.

Point being the £150m gives us that foundation to be ready to spend and spend big if we opt to in all foreseeable windows to come.

We're not paying the Kulu fee this summer, frees up a bit of extra cash.

Interested to see what they do with sales, GLC rumoured to be gone for €15-18m, Bergwjn probably €15-20m, Sanchez maybe similar. Gil and Tanganga out on loan would be good, 10-15m for Winks? We could recoup a fair bit back in sales to chip away at the net spend, which we like doing regardless of how much we will have to spend!

My view, Conte wants 6-8 players, understanding a little of Paratici, it could play out like

- 2-3 on frees, Forster, Perisic, maybe Eriksen?
- 2-3 in last year or two of contract -> <£20M
- 2 expensive signings -> Bastoni and if I was to guess, a RWB

I'm also expecting once the main group is done, potentially extensions to Conte & Kane

So short answer, yes I'd expect another statement signing after Bastoni

I think we'll pad with frees at GK (Johnstone/Forster), LWF (Perisic/Dybala) and CF (Brereton/other); go midrange at RWB (Spence/other); and then go big at LCB (Bastoni) and CM (no idea who).

What about Sergej Milinković-Savić for cm? Can attack and defend.

He was always tipped for great things, but I've just looked and he's 27 now. I wonder if he just stayed at Lazio too long and has plateaued? Or if a move now might reinvigorate him?

Got in the serie a team of the season. 11 goals and 11 assissts in the league. Is also good defensively. Would probably be fairly expensive with no re sale value. His wages aren't high at lazio though.
