Tanguy Ndombele

Apart from turning up to pre season two stone overweight, what do we think is going to happen with this waste of talent?

Saw it mentioned that when he comes back he'll be made to train alone. If that's true, it doesn't sound like he's going to receive a particularly warm welcome (from some).

Imagine going back to Lyon after that big move not working out, then that club where you made your name, having tried you out for a bit have decided they don't want you anymore either!
I'm sure he'll be fine, he's on huge wages, but I can see him just having loans until this big contract expires. I predict a loan to Turkey or somewhere next season.

Imagine if this guy goes through an intensive training programme and becomes a lean, press-breaking machine under Conte?

<<Yawns>> "Wake up, Time for breakfast GGE.."

Sigh... indeed, such a shame but I have absolutely zero confidence he will do that, we need to cut our losses and just get him out the club, free up some of the wage bill and just move on.

I wonder, just wonder, if now that the team is in the CL and with very bright prospects for next season, he might be able to get motivated enough to become a productive member of the team. I do hope Conte tries one more time to get him to change his attitude. If anyone can, it has to be Conte. He's such a huge talent and would be perfect in a 2-man midfield that it would be a shame not to try one more time. And I know managers before have tried, but maybe Conte is the one that can finally get through to him. He only had him for two and a half months and in the middle of a frantic run of games. Maybe give him a proper pre-season, rather than have him train alone, and see what happens. I really want to see him come good, not so much because of the fee, but because he has the tools to be one of the 2-3 best midfielders in the world, if he knuckles down.

I don't see this myself to be honest. I do think we need a second midfielder to play alongside Skipp/Bentancur/PEH who can really create (like NDombele), but that midfielder also has to be able to run - otherwise the balance gets lost. Someone like Eriksen or a younger version of Modric would be great for our current midfield two because they run more during a game, every game, than almost every other top midfielder in Europe. I really cannot see Tanguy doing that.

I get the sentiment BUT a team that collectively is starting to 'get it' doesn't need any kind of anchor (yes I said anchor) dragging on the momentum. Conte could put time into him, but why bother, Contes resources are not limitless, focus on the ones who have already passed the eye/attitude test.

Yeah, I know. It just kills me that such a talent can't get it together and is going to waste.

I don't think that it is a case of attitude holding Ndombele back at Spurs. Conte wants the team to carry out pre-planned routines precisely throughout the game. There is little space for freedom of expression. Ndombele's game is all about individual brilliance and spontaneity. He will never be a good fit for Conte

Agreed 100%

We saw it in his last few games he played under Conte, he was much more controlled and basically didn't even attempt to dribble the opposition which is a key part of his game. Couple that with Conte's comments about Ndombele needing to understand it's a team game and I think it's fair to say we have a situation where the player's natural game and instincts just don't mesh with the plans of the new coach.

But he has the technique and the physicality, if he shifts his attitude to doing what he’s told he can still be an asset.
