Another shooting in Murica

Does the right to bear arms in the US solely relate to guns or can you have any weapon? I was wondering this morning.. Can you keep a tank in your driveway or own hand grenades etc.?
As long as you've paid the council for a dropped kerb.

not defending US cops here believe me, but would you run into a school with a pistol and no kevlar vest when someone has one or two AR-15s? on $67,000 a year?

Come back to points i've made on this forum a while ago. People like to say the US are our cousins and how similar we are, but apart from language, you'll find culturally we're not even close.

Londoners are much more like New Yorkers than either are like East Anglians or Dakotans. The gun thing is fudging weird, though, I’ll grant you.

Honestly?
Yes, yes I would.

I'm still armed, I should still be trained. And I stand a damned sight more chance of survival than a 4, 5, 6 etc. year old.
Money is a nothing factor, imo, because I'm doing the job that I have been trained to do and have (or at least should have) accepted the inherent risks associated with it.
(Not even factoring in that this example was an elementary school, that alone should have sufficed.)

Whether or not I come back out, that's a different story.

.
The vids I saw had the cops outside all in tactical gear with automatic weapons. And there was 7 of them I beleive.

This was a clusterfudge

They waited 45 minutes before going in, and only did so when parents threatened to go in themselves. There was 80 of them.

Unfortunately that's not going to happen with majority of Police in US. The police want the gun and the badge and authority but they're not going to run into a school to save kids.

I agree, they should have. But they won't.

Now Republicans are back to discussing arming teachers again. There was me thinking teachers were there to teach...

Which is very sad, especially in light of many an act of terrorism in recent years where the general unarmed public have waded in :(

Yeah, I saw that they were pushing it again - well pushing anything that fits their narrative and doesn't include anything to enforce better gun laws.
I don't know if it's ever happened, and GHod knows I don't wish it on anyone, but I wonder if they would ever change tune if it was their kids that ended up being shot.

The Aussie comedian a few pages back said the same, and we all know how we were to some teachers, but yeh - that wouldn't end well in some scenarios :D
(The Rep's would probably come out and say arm the school monitors, if that's a thing still lol, to counter the armed teachers.)

Not just the GOP mate. Tories looking to stop student loans to anyone who fails Maths or English at GCSE... Rich conservatives on both sides of the pond trying their best to make the divide bigger.
That's got nothing to do with rich/poor, that's an intelligent/dumb divide.

Should we just lower everything to suit the lowest common denominator?

I thought the police had stayed outside the school but just seen on the news that there were I think it said 19 police officers inside the school, actually in the corridor outside the classroom where the gunman was, and they wouldn't go in. They were there for over an hour. How on earth are they going to live with themselves after that?
