The Goon Thread - Officially Second In A One Horse Race

It was a fudging penalty, no question the guy prevented Son going for a header. That they are not usually given is because of poor refereeing. I am always surprised how much defenders get away with inside the box when it comes to holding and shoving.
It's different when the defender starts next to the forward and shifts them as the ball gets to them. In that situation, the difference between a foul and simply being stronger in the air is almost imperceptible.

Charging in from a few yards out and taking out the forward while the ball is still in flight is a lot clearer.

Take your stinking hands off me you damn dirty gooner!

This sums up the issue many people have with refs, I guess. It's not their job to label fouls "soft". You're there to make decisions. Foul or no foul. Card or no card. Calls can be hard, of course, and it's no easy job.

But if you consider something "technically correct", then it's a foul and you blow the fudging whistle and move on.

Can you imagine umpires in cricket doing that with a catch, "he did hit the ball but he didnt mean to and the bowling was fast, so not out this time" be just like touring Pakistan before neutral umpires.

If you reverse the roles so Son is the defender and the arsenal player is the attacker, the ref blows that for a foul and any goal that came out of that phase of play would be disallowed.

Every club has fans that think there is some sort of conspiracy against their club. We certainly do. Just ignore it.

To be fair, there can be a difference.
Clattenburg is "technically" a ref.

I agree. But equally you will have people calling for common sense to be used, or for refs to let the game flow or to not spoil the game by handing out cards too early etc - things that shouldn't come into play if they are meant to be true to the laws of the game. That's why a competently-functioning VAR is needed, but we still have a way to go to get that right.
As for Clattenburg rearing his head, does he have another book in the offing or something? There must be some self-interest.

£72m for Pepe :D

Paid Bara £7m to take Aubameyang off them. Left in Jan he's still their joint top scorer this season. :D

Young side, needing to get over the line, massive fuk up letting Aubameyang leave before the summer :D

£150m spent on average players last summer, the most of any European side. :D

..and we complain about how we operate.

There are spurs fans on here who think they did all the right things
You will know who they are as they are as they won’t be on here now

I thought Arsenal were doing well a few months back, and they were. But their lack of squad depth, lack of experience and lack of top manager badly let them down and it’s great times for it!!
