Eric Dier

It can be both... A dynamic defence line that can shift from defence into attack quickly. Recall his Chelsea team with Luiz? With a low line wingbacks are key but with a high line and pushing up through the centre starting with the CCB we can commit more men in midfield and then more men in box.

We do that with Romero and Davies
It’s the reverse of what you say with more CBS attacking

At the beginning of the season, I thought he needed to be shipped out as a priority, but now I think he deserves to stay and prove himself in the center.

He has improved dramatically but even then I think he can be upgraded, however, we have other parts in our team that are priority that need addressing. RWB, LWB, LCB, CM, ST

May be better with Romero in the centre. Didn't he play in the centre of a three for Atalanta?

Yep but he had the other two sticking behind
It was the reverse of what we do now

I’d say what we do no is a W formation with the CBS starting at the bottom of the W and attacking wide

at Atlanta is was more like an upside down V. He played. He played central but was the most aggressive from there

I appreciate the letters as a reference may not help ;)

I get the letters thing...aggressive centre sounds so unlike spurs that I want it more :)

He was a loon
But it was effective as when he didn’t take the man he had two players to clean up
What I didn’t see in Italy was his passing range which is really really impressive

if romero as CCB is an auxillary DM and can dictate play from deep with long passing, that's why we need him there and should build a defence around him.

He is excellent as a RCB, not the least of which because he links very well with Kulu and Doherty. Right now it is Royal who is actually advancing more and playing more like a WB because of the security and intelligence Romero displays in that slot.

If we got Bastoni, I think out back three would be among the best.

The other way of thinking is that it's easier to find rcbs and lcbs compared to game dictating ccbs. So yes it feels like a big shuffle, but it gets the best out of Romero for us. Also a question of what's out there and for what price and I wonder if its over for Rodon and Sanchez in Conte's back 3.

Though I agree about the right side... We have the best right wing in the league at the moment with Kulu, Romero, Doherty and (despite) Romero.

Not in the England squad announced today!

Coady, Guehi and White in.

:astonished:

Well, that's a bit brick. Probably comeback for Dier criticising the PFA nominations.

Coady and Guehi have had good seasons, and the latter is young so let's get him in. Ben White, meh. But Stones and Maguire?! Certainly not on club form, although I suppose the latter has done well for England.

I'm pleased that Tomori and Abraham have made it in. I've not seen anything of them this season, but it sounds like they've both been tearing it up in Serie A.

Hopefully Kane won't have to play every minute of every game.

I do wonder if some passages of play have gone against Dier in recent weeks:

- The missed chance for Antonio just after we scored (and after a Kane backpass to Dier); LUCKY LUCKY escape
- The last minute goal that Trossard scored in our loss to Brighton
- The intercepted pass that Norwich missed just after we went a goal up...

Anyway, the less games he plays for England the fresher he is for us which might be even more crucial in Conte's system

yep I would like to see him as a DM. In fact after we lost to Boro/Winks career ending game I was calling for it to happen!
