Son Heung-Min

Son is world class.
He's our Benzema.
Ardiles level legend for this generation

I still don't think he's world class, but that's probably more a question of how one uses that term.

Fantastic player with world class end product for me. Long may his form and quality last.

If he has World class end product, surely that makes him World class. I think he is. I mean you talk to any supporter and they’d want Son in their team which speaks volumes, and many, maybe most, would prefer to have Son than to have Kane.

You can put in world class performances without being world class - the whole point of being world class is that you are putting those performances in week in, week out, season after season. You mention Kane, he puts in ridiculous numbers season after season. This should be the first time Son scores 20 league goals, he needs be doing that season after season like the Kanes and Salahs do who are considered world class. He is getting closer though if he continues this consistency into the next season for sure, he has been far more consistent than previous years....

Again, how one uses that term. I think one can be world class in one area without being world class overall.

The players I consider world class are (very close to) as good as anyone else in that role/position, and good in different phases of play, game states, situations. Son for me is a bit too quiet/ineffective in some areas and phases of play to be truly world class. And as Harry points out, consistency.

I accept that my definition of world class is somewhat narrow compared to how some others use that term.

You seem to have forgotten that Son is our support striker, not the main one. That role remember belongs to Kane, who has been far less prolific this season, scoring just 11 PL goals from open play compared with Son's 19.

So I would argue that Son should really compared with Salah, whom you have already acknowledged is considered world class. It may surprise you to learn that, discounting penalties, Son has outscored his Liverpool counterpart over the past TWO seasons, scoring a total of (edit) 36 goals from open play to Salah's 33. This despite Salah playing for a much stronger all round team than Son.

Surely the time has now come to acknowledge that our South Korean maestro is currently, at the very least, on a par with his world-class Liverpool counterpart?

I’m sure there is a stat somewhere about Son that he has been the most consistent player through Europe for goals and assists over the past few seasons. I can’t remember the numbers which I appreciate kinda screws this post but I’m hoping someone here knows the stat that I’m referring to.

World class means can play for a top two team in the top four leagues.

No, you completely missed my point, which was you need to play Son every game because overall he is currently more likely to win you matches than any other player, I'd say even more so than Kane right now. Dropping him imo, even for one game, would be way too risky.

That said, I would agree that Bergwijn has done well in his cameos this season, ergo it is a shame he cannot be given a start or even a run of starts. But that's the way the cookie crumbles.
Almost every midfield/attacking/wingback player needs a rest eventually... there are games in December that are literally two days apart. I would rotate 7-8 players in those instances just to try to keep legs fresh, otherwise you wind up with a team that can't make it to May (sound familiar from past seasons?).

Son wouldn’t get in the City or Liverpool team, his passing is no where near good enough and his tackling is non existent for 2 teams who aggressively press.

No doubt it will be Son and Kane’s fault if we lose to Liverpool regardless of how the rest of the team play. if the rest of the team chipped in with more goals we would have tinkled the top 4. Look at Arsenal recently, two CB’s scored for them on Sunday, even Xhaka got a goal against United FFS! Kulu has been a great addition but if Kane and Son don’t turn up we simply don’t have any chance of winning most weeks. But let’s keep putting it all on them whenever we drop points and going out of our way to claim they’re not world class and how they wouldn’t get into the city or Liverpool team.

They press but they don’t tackle
He scored goals from both feet… that would be more than enough for two sides who don’t have anyone like him
He is better than Jesus for a start

Not sure how true that is. I know it’s as good a definition as any but really there have been many many awful players to have played for the top sides.
Maybe one good question is whether they get inside a team created from the best players in that league. In which case, I think Son definitely would.

You win as a team, you lose as a team.
For some reason i can't fathom we seem to have periods where we look like everyone is playing for each other and all best mates, and then there's days were they none of them seem to know each other.
Its been like that since harry left.
I can't say that i've noticed a pattern in it, against big teams, minnows, certain times of the season ot whatever, but for a club that are meant to be competing for trophies it's just bizarre that we can't create that togetherness that you need.
