Ben Davies

I've been dropping Josko Gvardiol's name in here quite a bit. IMO, similar to Davies because he plays both as as LB and a CB. Seems like he's playing as the LCB in the back three at Leipzig but I don't watch Bundesliga at all. Young and has potential, could possibly replace Davies by 2024.

Yes we've been linked. Might be expensive though. Haven't seen anything other than youtube vids so can't judge. But highly rated.

We need at least one cb in the summer. One that can play lcb. The drop in quality if one of the 3 get injured is too big. We might aswell try and get one that improves our first 11 not just our squad. It might be difficult but that is what paratici is paid for.
I agree

Davies is OK but we need one with a special power like above average speed, vision or winning headers to complement the defence and improve our team capabilities.

Many ball playing CBs, just less English ones to choose from!

That would be good. I just think it may be harder, or more expensive to actually do than some on here have made it sound.

Not an abundance of left footed very good centre backs who are good enough on the ball.

Even not looking at English players, but in the PL as a whole... Ignoring if players are attainable or not. Laporte would be an upgrade. May be my lack of knowledge, but I struggle to point at another that would be a clear upgrade.

We've seen in the past players from outside the PL, even with a big reputation, be hit and miss.

Not saying it can't be done, nor that we shouldn't try. I trust Paratici and Conte to make good decisions. But not easy.

Why this game and not every game?
I think Liverpool were surprised by our tenacity in defence.

Davies has had very few bad games for us under Conte. I think at the Saudi Sportswashing Machine game as well I saw him losing his brick when we conceded a chance despite winning the game comfortably. He's not always "Gentle Ben".

The piece of defending for that block on Salah was just poetry in motion. Could watch it all day. If VVD did it, BT would be blowing their loads.

Thats two games Salah played against us and he didn't get any change out of Sessegnon or Davies.

Tbh. The most basic of pass made by him or TAA and they need a Kleenex. It's embarassing

TAA is a very good footballer but he's one of the worst defenders I've ever seen in a top side. I dunno how he gets such a free ride. And you could say that's how Klopp has him playing but Robertson on the other side can attack and defend. His primary job should be defending and he can't do it. Heskey got abused for years because, as a forward, he did everything well except his main job.

Far from player of the year, he's one of the first that we can upgrade on. He was really good defensively yesterday, but even then some of his passing was poor, especially the one he played across his own box in the first half. Would keep him as a really good squad option but hope he's not first choice next year.
Sorry I just don’t agree
And upgrade on him will be a hell of a player
And it’s exactly what we need

Good luck finding an upgrade on him without spending £70m+.

Liverpool play with 3 midfielders who don't get beyond the forwards. Their most attacking midfielder is Thiago. They set themselves up to have the two CBs with 3 CMs across the pitch in midfield. That gives freedom to the full-back who more or less play as wing backs given the CMs hold their position

So TAA is ideal for them given their formation. Argubly his primary job is not defending given the way which they play - its to support the forwards. If they played with, say, a playmaker like an Eriksen and a Lampard/Gerrard/Scholes type as part of the 3 midfielders, then the fullbacks would need to be better defensively. But thats not how they play
