So, what happened today?

clams, sorry for your loss, silver lining though, you get to buy a new one

I do enjoy your posts but must say the idea of getting robbed equalling anticipation of buying a new version of what was robbed speaks of a certain kind of privilege - I had a laptop (MacBook pro) and a newish iPhone (along with my cards + id) robbed not so long ago and my first thought wasn’t “Oh great I get to buy new versions of what I had!!!”

The idea that we could set up a society where people don’t feel the need to rob each other seems impossible / naive so the silver lining is that all the decent people are constantly stressed and insurance companies profit on anxiety..

Edit - Looking at it again I do acknowledge you expressed sympathy and called the thieving bastards clams, and the rest of your post was an “always look on the bright side of life” kind of vibe which can’t be faulted..

you make a fair point

from personal experience though, buying a new bike, and all that entails, is like crack, its not like having to buy something as essential as a phone or computer, its more akin to choosing a new sexual partner

Gotcha 100%, without knowing all that much about biking.

My response was more annoyance at everyone robbing each other + or bitterness about my current lack of decent phone or any kind of replacement laptop since (never mind the whole choosing a sexual partner thing ;))

And to be fair @Baleforce and I are definitely fluent in the same sarcasm!

My first reaction was to post a photo of the front wheel still locked to the bike rack with the caption "I think part of my bike is missing" :D

Yeah it sucks to have a £700 bike stolen.
But that's just it, it sucks & nothing more. I can replace it tomorrow with savings. (Most annoyingly, I'd only had it six months!!).
But I won't have to turn the heating down two degrees so I can feed the kids (partly because I don't have any and randomly giving food to other people's kids is frowned upon) or have to worry about Russia bombing my flat.

On the plus side - I now get to buy two bikes!
One bricky one that I can leave at the station for a few days if I need - the irony being I won't give a brick if some Danchev takes it, but no-one will take it because it'll be brick!

And then a replacement fun bike!

The weird thing about living in a safe city like Norwich - it's petty crimes like bike crime that are the issue.

I'm going to have to start a thread aren't I.

(Also, this whole choosing a new sexual partner thing, tell me more....... does it involve custard?)

It's an interesting one about robbing.
My bike was parked in a bike park, tucked away and with two locks on, so they definitely targeted it. Probably bolt cutters. Cnuts.
But on the flip side, there are parts of Norfolk and especially Suffolk where the wages are low and opportunities are poor - so if someone is having to resort to stealing bikes to get by, they are probably in greater need than I am.
It's a tricky philosophy question.

Off to London this morning to pick up our wedding rings from our Jeweller in Hatton Garden
9 weeks till the big day, getting a bit real now

The speed idiots are travelling in those conditions are insane, they have no logic switch in their heads..

It's crazy! Slippery road and poor visibility...it doesn't take a Nobel price winning brain to figure out you better slow down and take it easy. It's baffling how many drivers doesn't understand that very simple logic.

A friend of the family called me today and asked if I happened to be at our cottage, as he was on his way from Sweden, heading in that direction. (it's only 45 km from where I live to the Swedish border, and we have a cottage not far from the border). I told him I was not, but my parents are there, so he said he'll stop by for a coffee.

He shows up there, sits down, gets a cup of coffee, starts to talk and then drops the coffee cup. And he just died. Instantly! Right there and then.
My parents are still in shock, and who can blame them. He only just turned 50 years! You're not supposed to just drop dead at that age. Very scary. I'm pretty shocked too, and I wasn't even there. Just incredibly sad.

Couldn't agree more with Bforce, something about buying vehicles makes chaps drool. Show us a shortlist so we can vicariously come for the ride.

What a terrible situation and shock for your parents to have to deal with. (And of course your friend's family).
Sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear this. Hope your parents are ok after witnessing this. So young.
