Bale (again)

Well, well. Not the worst free transfer we could make.

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale agreed to join Spurs on a free transfer in the summer ‘months ago’, according to reports in Spain.

Bale has made only three appearances for Real this term, his last coming on August 28, since returning from last season’s loan spell at Tottenham.

The 32-year-old forward, who is in the final year of his Real contract, has actually played more for Wales this season, with his last four appearances on international duty.
Bale suffered a hamstring injury in September and then picked up a calf complaint after winning his 100th Wales cap against Belarus last month, but he has returned to full training ahead of December’s Madrid derby with Atletico.

Despite his recovery, Carlo Ancelotti has not selected him for any of the 11 matches since Real’s 2-0 derby win over Atletico and his future at the Bernabeu looks bleak.

In fact, Spanish publication Nacional claim that Bale decided to move ages ago and will ‘soon stop causing problems’ at Madrid as he will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Real will only be too pleased to ‘get rid of his salary’ and the report insists that the Welshman ‘has never managed to adapt to the city and the dressing room, and has made no effort to integrate into Spain’.

Bale will ‘sign one last contract’ and delay his retirement and his ‘next stop will be at Tottenham Hotspur’, where he spent last season on loan.

It is understood that Spurs ‘wanted to retain him’ last summer but that the financial demands from Real Madrid were so great that they decided against a deal.
He was also not ‘to the liking of Nuno Espirito Santo’ but Spurs have now ‘reactivated interest’ in Bale, who is a fan of Antonio Conte.

By not leaving in January, Bale is set to collect a signing bonus and a deal to return to Tottenham has been ‘completely closed for several months’.

The report adds that Bale ‘did not leave in January to continue collecting’ every ‘last penny that Madrid owes him’.

Was going to say someone else to add to the winning mentality at the club but then thought, I'll get hammered because he's happy to warm a bench (albeit a lucrative one in Madrid). He is "driven" though so I can't see a downside really....

To be fair there isn’t a dedicated transfer rumour discussion for “according to reports” click bait, when there possibly should be.

Wouldn't be totally against it, but a lot of points against for me.

Has fantastic, game changing end product. Would score goals, get assists.

Showed very little willingness to do the defensive part of the job while here on loan. Now, even older... Playing him is playing with 10 men defensively. The impact on our structure defensively would be massive. He's good, but he's not good enough to warrant changing our system and how we play to accommodate him.

Everyone else working their socks off, Bale walking around waiting for another chance to score. Not a good look for anyone involved.

As a super sub, impact player. Warm the bench most of the time, called upon in certain circumstances. Do your job. Be a role model... Maybe. Possibly.

Can see this happening, especially if Wales qualify for the WC. Doubt he’d want to go to a lower club and be the main man.

If Wales don’t qualify can see him retiring.

Never! Difficult to think of many players, aside from Tubby, who are less suited to Conte's need for player who runs

Remember the NLD when he was at Spurs last year? He stood on the half way line and watched Tierney create 2 on 1s against our RB

Pretty sure Levy would love this deal for the brand / exposure value.

I'd be keen on it as an option against park the bus teams, he's still got great technique particularly when striking the ball.
Be good to have a proper chance to cheers his name too.

On reasonably low wages as an impact sub when we're losing/drawing but on top in the game and trying to turn a loss into a draw or a draw into a win, then I'd have no problem with us getting him back.

However I don't see us paying the wage that he would want (and I don't think he would be worth that sort of wage to us either). I reckon he'll end up playing for Beckham's franchise over in Miami and enjoying some of the lovely Florida golf courses.

At their ground
He was woeful away from home as he needed to work more and just didn’t…
But he did score goals
