January Transfer Thread - it couldn't open and close any quicker

Doesn't have to be like Gedson, thought that was the point of a Director of Football to make better signings. Another loan or purchase along the lines of the 2 we've done would help the squad.
Our first 11 is ok/good then you have bench options made up with Gollini, Doherty/Royal, Sessegnon, Winks, Rodon, Tanganga, Bergwijn who with the odd exception have generally been seen to be not good enough.

Glass half empty?
That bench, except for Gollini and Rodon, have all been seen to be passable as back up over the last 2 months. Winks, Bergwijn are playing their best football for 18 months. Sess is fit and getting involved, even Doherty wasn't 'not good enough' as a wing-back when played there.

Can it be improved? Yes, but having shifted the deadwood of Dele, GLC, Ndombele we are in a solid position with an improved potential depth of squad in that we have bought in 2 players and only lost Gil from the actual contributing playing squad and freed up bench space perhaps for Harvey White or another Academy player so perhaps stopping us losing so many of them due to no route to first team football).

Another signing would have been great. But we are in better shape than 48 hours ago.

I dont really have a problem with having a thinner squad. I am more thoughtful that we wont have game changers on the bench. Also if we can thin the squad so that we can be ready to sign players earlier in the summer window then that is all good as well.

I hope one or two of the younger players get more of a chance as well due to this. I prefer to see young players playing that over rated nobodies from another league.

All this said though. Its a bit underwhelming that basically Paratici goes back to the well to sign two players from his former job. I hope he has more scope in the summer.

Did Paratici sign these 2 new players to save face in a last ditch to sign someone?
Incoming Kulusevski and Bentacur will hopfully add more than Dele and Ndombele who were both contributing little when they played.Ndombele who had skills kept running out of steam and Deli had completely lost his confidence and was making mistakes and just could not get it together.
I think Jose didn't really help him. Sad to see Deli go..I would not have sold him I would have played him in a different position!
Anyway no real superstars as of yet!!it appears we have to to wait yet again to have any chance to see a Spurs Team that can really challenge for great things. Great things? "whats this guy ..some kind of joker?" Maybe..BUT its 1961 since we last won the League and from my point of view its a bit of a disgrace really as a spurs fan who loves this club.

The players look quite good but not too sure if they are world beaters?
I hope he is working with Conte as well.

If the players are not there it’s not worth spending the money

squad isn’t good enough, I agree.

but filling it up with rubbish again isn’t the way to fix it

The key first is making room for those players
Getting rid of the dross or those who don’t want to be here makes the squad better

Hence why I said along the lines of the 2 we signed who are deemed good enough.
If the players aren't available that's fair enough, just feel we're short at the moment.

I'm not disputing that it all makes sense, all I'm saying is looking at the squad as of now our bench options are lacking.

We do indeed have the best manager.
I would say West Ham and United have better on the bench possibly.
Anyway we know the summer is the main window, hopefully Conte can get us CL football with what's at his disposal.

West Ham have one striker in their squad…. their fans are fuming at the lack of depth they have
United have a squad but right now, yet again, they have other issues

I'm actually ok with this. The Jan window is a reactionary one where you hare fixing squad deficiencies and setting yourself up for the final push. Transfers are a gamble, best solution is someone already familiar with the league. Next best solution is to go for someone that you already know really well.

Decent enough window for me.

tickle my balls with a feather, said it before but Jan is not the best time to buy really big players. We have got rid of the rubbish and brought in two who look promising.
