Coronavirus

Young did not like what Rogan has to say so demands he’s de platformed or he’ll remove his music from Spotify. Looks pretty pathetic really. Pretty apt for the behavior we constantly witness lately. I don’t like your opinion so you’re not entitled to voice it.
That's not really what is happening. This is not just a difference of opinion. Rogan is super popular among a certain cohort of young men and Covid misinformation is the last thing these impressionable guys need to hear. Spotify was never going to drop Rogan. Young knew this confrontation would cause ripples and used it to amplify his point.

I understand that. The thing is the impressionable youngsters are not going to care what young has to say or change their minds. So it looks a bit toys out the pram.

Think there is a wider point in terms of covid misinformation . What was misinformation in the early days is now a possibility . I.e the lab leak theory. That theory was classed as conspiracy nonsense to start with .

Also on vaccine we were told two doses to start with then it was three then maybe four doses . Maybe a booster jab yearly forever. people should be sceptical to a point . What if in ten years time everyone who took a vaccine goes on to develop some form of illness because of it ? We don’t know. It’s possible. For all the short term good there could be long term damage. It’s not black and white.

The way people have picked a side of the debate and are so willing to die on that hill they choose is weird. Rogan or Young only the historians down the line will know who was right in their views. So calls to de platform are wrong in my opinion.

There is science and there is conjecture. These are the 'sides' in this argument, and as far as I can see it's on only one of these hills they are actually dying.

Rogan is what he is. A good interviewer who can quickly get in sync with his guest's opinions (even if it contradicts the previous guest's opinions). In this case, I think he has crossed the line. The unvaccinated are dying at 20 times a higher rate than the vacinated. So frankly we don't have to imagine some future illness, we have one now.

Sorry but the unvaccinated aren't dying at a 20 times higher rate. Not in the uk at least.

We're well passed that point.

I'm pro vaccination, for adults at least. But we should try and keep to reality.

It was quoted in some stats from the CDC a few weeks back so not the UK but it is reality somewhere or was at the time.

As i said, i'm pro vax. There was higher hospitalisations and death rates amongst unvaccinated. But everyone has been exposed now. We all have some immunity.

The cdc have been a bit liberal with their figures before.

Anyone that takes medical advice from Rogan is a fudging idiot.

Still don’t agree with Young . Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and has the right to speak it within the guidelines of law or rules of broadcasting or on Spotify Rightly or wrongly.

Don’t like to see calls for censorship

It’s not a call for censorship. Neil Young offered them a choice. If they stick with that absolute fudgetard Rogan, then he wanted his music removed from their service. They chose fudgetard. Young’s music is being removed at his request. Choice. On both sides.

He called for him to be removed from the platform . Maybe not censorship but not far from it.

He called for Spotify to make a choice. If they wanted to carry Rogan’s work (loose term) he wanted to be removed from their platform. No-one is asking for anyone to be censored. It is two opinions and preferences being exercised. Sorry, I think it is very different, and conflating the two is dangerous IMO.

Irony of course being that young as a heavy drug user, and through his work promoter of that lifestyle, back in his hey day sparked the same reaction from the old squares.

Ok Stef. I see what you mean on censorship. Still think Young was wrong to give Spotify the ultimatum because he disliked the views of someone else.

Misinformation is coming from all angles in this age. Even main stream media.

I would agree that the CDC has some reputational cleanup to do especially after the politicisation of the Trump years, but even if the rates are contested what is not disputed is that unvaccinated that are dying at a higher rate worldwide.
Anyway if you want to pick apart the figures go at it. I've stayed out of this thread mostly for more or less to avoid these discussions. My main point is Rogan's irresponsibility and that I stand behind.

What did he say? That young healthy people don't need the vax? Which is true.

For under 18s the risk of dying from the vaccinstion is higher than from dying from covid. The only reason they are being vaccinated is governments chasing herd immunity. Which would be ok if we could ever get there. But with waning immunity (anti bodies at least) we will never get there.

The freedom of information from the ons showed that only 17,000 people with no comorbidities died from covid in the uk. The average age was 81.

He's said plenty more than that.

As I mentioned in the post you quoted, I'm not going to get drawn into a discussion on the numbers etc which has been done to death by others.

I have to say I find the argument that it is mostly old people dying of covid and so it matters less very disturbing.

It is a cultural thing in the U.K. (ethnically white Brits anyway) that our society does not value that generation and it really needs to change. We should remember that we all stand on their shoulders and we have a natural right to health and happiness at any age.
