Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

It’s a fascinating situation I think. If Nuno or Jose were saying what Conte is saying, they’d be accused of lacking ambition or throwing players under the bus.

Yet, I think it’s interesting that Conte is going down this route. He’s trying to force the club’s hand in my view. They don’t buy, from a PR perspective, he’s clearly been let down so he doesn’t get top 4, it won’t be on him.

He can’t be sacked - there would be mutiny in the stands. Likewise, he’s in a tough situation with the players if he doesn’t get anyone in. He’s basically said repeatedly that they aren’t good enough to compete. We all know that’s true but for the manager to say it and say it publicly is a massive deal.

I wouldn’t like to be in Levy’s shoes right now if he isn’t willing to spend. He doesn’t sign good players and the manager will call him out on it knowing he’s practically unsackable. If the manager decided to walk, Levy will also get it in the neck from the fanbase as it’d be obvious why he walked.

I reckon Conte is demanding but realistic. The club need to give him 2-3 players he wants. I don’t think Levy has many choices here - Conte holds all the cards.

He hasn't said the players aren't good enough. He's said the squad isn't good enough. He's made it pretty clear which players he doesn't think are good enough and wants to move on.
He's also said it's not all about transfers and that there is a lot of work to be done in training (which will also improve the squad).

He is looking at the depth in key areas and it’s missing
CM… he has 3 players there he doesn’t want and that’s telling
He has Rodon he doesn’t want judging by his lack of any game time so we’re weak at CB in reality and that’s even slowing for Tanganga
We don’t have any cover for Kane at all
We have a back up keeper who is toilet and conte wouldnt use again if he could avoid
So IMO that’s 6 areas/players that he will see as issues or 25% of a basic squad

People only hear the bits that suit their position unfortunately

I've already mentioned how Conte is at fault for both goals conceded against Chelsea. Tactically, leaving Tanganga on for 10m after half-time lost us the game.

However, the other thing that has let us down is squad building.

Under ENIC, it will be a disadvantage forever, and ever, but it is worth pointing out just what a difference it is to have Levy and Lewis as the deadweights in charge, against ambitious owners.

We are 23 days into the window. 23.

We've clearly wanted a right back for months. We will leave it to the final week, maybe the final day. Who knows what a new RB would have done here - how different this could have been.

We wanted a forward to back up Harry Kane. GHod knows if we'll get one before the window closes.

We wanted a center-back. Likewise, GHod knows if we'll get one.

In a window where Antonio Conte, the best manager we've appointed since Poch, has been begging for reinforcements - we have given him absolutely none.

And as a case study, it is interesting to see what a difference early transfers can make.

Aston Villa appointed Steven Gerrard a few weeks after Conte. They have moved fast and hard to back him, bringing in Coutinho - who then made an instant impact at United. Digne - who made an instant impact against Everton. They have helped Aston Villa pick up points they may not have done if they had not arrived.

Who knows how different this game could have been, if we had been proactive - for once in the twenty years of Levy and Lewis' miserable, parsimonious, grinding, depressing rule at Spurs.

Aston Villa, a club recently in the championship, moved faster than us to back a manager whose biggest achievement was winning the title with Rangers.

We left Antonio Conte, one of the game's best managers, high and dry.

What we we do now may salvage the rest of the season. But ultimately, our utter inaction for three weeks shows once again how Daniel Levy has learned absolutely nothing, and never will.

Penny-wise, pound foolish. Should engrave that on his damn tombstone.
But we have a shiny new stadium loaded with gadgets and a cinema coming. Great times to be a Spurs fan! Which other club can boast the world's best non-football achievements!

Think its very obvious he doesn't think our starting eleven or squad can compete with the top 3. And while coaching will help, there's no way Conte will be happy if we don't sign a couple of players minimum in this window. He's clearly playing the game.

Which he should

To be fair, he never said that. Conte is the best manager we could have. He’s bloody brilliant and will be a success if we back him. But he made some very poor decisions today and it’s fair that he’s criticised for them.
Two years worth of managers have made similar decisions - there is point where you really have to concede it's not poor managerial decision making, it's trying to make dinner with whatever you can find at the back of the cupboard

You have Moura, Son, Reguilon, Romero, Emerson and Skipp. 6 players that should be în the first 11, more than half. Skipp and Moura came in and didn't look injured or carrying anything, they were just not used. I am sure Emerson was fit too. So 3 starters you've chosen to sit on the bench, already knowing 3 others are injured. You keep pummiling us with Tanganga and Doherty, both League One talent if you ask me. Frankly with the team and the stupid tactics used, I believe we wouldn't have won against many în the league.
I strongly believe in Conte, but he showed he was too afraid of our opponents tonight. Plenty of teams came there and got a result, we use 9 defensive minded players. Painful to watch.

Can you support your statements on player fitness? Do you know how fit those players were? Interested in your sources, otherwise it's just another opinion from a couch.

As for afraid, he set us up well, we had a good first-half and had we not been done by the ref would've had the chance to see how we defended a lead second-half. Instead, dingdonged again.

What is clear is we need upgrades in specific areas, because our final pass execution in key passages is overall poor.

Today was as much on Conte's decisions as it was on squad/player quality. We have failed to be competitive in 3 games against Chelsea when weaker teams than ours have managed it. That for me is simply not good enough.

Why put all your bets on a game that there's a high chance of losing? Given the build up of games I saw Conte's decisions as sound. We need to give some guys a rest and win all the other games. Arsenal comes to mind and it would be a tragedy if they had more players fit.

We've got 2 weeks off.

Look at Chelsea’s recent form. We had a more than decent chance of winning.

Agreed and I think he's playing it very well. I really don't think Levy has many places to go on this without giving Conte what he wants or looking like a complete roosterwomble.

I dont understand this comment. It suggests there is a pot of money to spend but daniel really doesnt want to spend it but people like yourself and jamie redknapp are urging daniel to give this pot to conte.

But that is not the reality. The reality is we have no money to spend due to covid and zero help as always from lewis. We have agreed a fee for traore but cannot go ahead unless we shift someone like dele to Saudi Sportswashing Machine.

All we can do is hope that by the summer the new third party investment has come.
