**** Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur ****

Yet against Leicester we had plenty
Because Leicester is a much worse team, that gave us a lot more time. Chelsea play much much quicker, and have the players to be able to play that quickly. We don't, and either do Leicester. In fact our players are better than what Leicester have.

The issue is less the goals we conceded but the lack of real opportunities for us and how one sided the match mostly was. I admittedly saw bits and pieces of the match but what I saw we never looked particularly threatening and their goals seemed to be just one pass away imo.

Conte is a good coach and has us performing well but we have too many substandard players starting games for us. The squad stills needs massive refreshment and in some ways today's result is good because it puts those who had gone to cloud 9 after the leicester match back in cold old reality.

We need new players and quite a few in key areas if we want to once again progress and challenge for things.

The owners don't want to challenge for anything. If they had we would've beaten Leicester to the title and Liverpool to the Champions League. Just 2 or 3 more top class players in those seasons and it would've happened. Instead they either didn't spend at all or if they did, it was on more medicre players which means we consistently finish runner-up to everything. ENIC are perfectly happy finishing in 5th/6th/7th and maybe there's the odd cup run, mostly to pre-final stages where it inevitably ends to a well resourced opponent.

Agreed

It is weak in areas and needs strengthening but fudge me the endless melodrama from certain corners is just laughable

Talking about corners, yet again we are abject at corners. Yet their corner delivery, movement and attacking the ball were spot on. Will we ever learn?

What else have we learnt today?

1. Bergwijn can't play centre forward.
2. Dougherty is still useless
3. Sess looks lost
4. Our midfield isn't good enough
5. Conte is not a master tactician

Absolutely spot on. They are better both man for man and as a collective. It is men against boys at the moment. We have no power down our spine and are therefore spineless. Totally different from when our big hunks of burning love Dembele, Wanyama , Dier, Verts and Toby roamed and dominated the middle of the park. We are a million miles from that now with players like Winks, Davies, Sanchez, PIerre and
Skipp. We need some real power in those positions.

Yeah, I agree, but I did not mean to imply that I think our entire squad is useless - it really isn't. We're just not at Chelsea's level at the moment, and will need the likes of Romero, a new midfielder, a new right back and a partner to Kane to begin to get anywhere in that regards.

None of these things are surprising in the least. I'd argue they are all things we knew before this match. Hell, most we knew before this season started.

and their manager is a simpleton

Was it working? They were better than us in both halves.

We needed to try something different and change the pattern of defeats, but we went out with a defensive setup and inevitably we conceded. Once the 2nd one went in they killed the game off, though I dare say if they had kept at it they might have scored again. There are some excuses for the lackluster performance but for me, it never looked like we thought we would win and the players didn't seem to think they would either. Yeah they have a hex over us, but we also play into their scummy hands with our negative approach. To dare ....

Yet commentators thought we should have been 1-0 up at HT? The merest of hands on a defender the sole reason we weren't winning at the break. Fine margins between congratulating Conte on a perfect plan no? Second half, we let in two because Tanganga and Doherty were not able to handle Hudson. Conte changed it, but too late. With a day less rest, and all the hoopla over the Lecister win, the only way we were getting a result today was if we kept a clean sheet. So Conte's broad idea was correct for me, just takes some blame for not bringing on Moura and moving Doherty back a little quicker. Hidsight makes this easy to say.

Spurs looked scared.. the Putin team was far much better than us

we're always scared going there. A pathetic victim mentality. You see it in these pages too with fans going on and on about referees and VAR having it in for us, etc, etc. The losing mindset has become imprinted deep into the DNA of the club and its fans. A winner like Conte can change it over time, but not unlless he is given the right tools to help him in that pursuit.

we do go there thinking we will lose, but the refs do have it in for us, twice Chelsea players knocked us to the ground with higher force than Kanes “push” on Silva, only one was given as a FK

But we didn't have the greatest squad under Poch. No one would have looked at that squad before Poch took hold of them and said title contenders. Easy to say they were in hindsight. Conte needs to do more than whinge. He's never going to get the great players he thinks he needs, neither is he going to be here years. Needs to get on with it. 3 games against Chelsea with no goals is not acceptable imho. He needs to shoulder some responsibility for that.
