**** Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur ****

Last thing on this game from me - we weren't demotivated today, or uncompetitive. We showed up, tried hard, challenged for the ball. But they were just quicker to everything, better on the ball, better off it. They anticipated the bounce quicker, where the second ball was going. And when they saw opportunities, they took them - Tanganga on a yellow, they ran at him immediately.

Our lads are just...dim. Dim on the ball, dim off it. Did we run at Silva on a yellow? Like fudge. Did we force Jorginho into tackles on a yellow? Did we, fudge.

Our squad is pleasant, and utterly stupid - on a football intelligence level. When allied with class and no shortage of talent, a squad like Chelsea's wipes the floor with squads like ours precisely because of that.

we did, we had a better team than them, scored more points than them across two seasons, lost stupid games that should have been bankers, it was text book bottle

agree on the other two points though
Nah they had a deeper squad and fewer games. Agree we should have been better at the battle of the bridge game. But at least we took the game to them.

What was the thinking behind even starting Tanganga let alone leaving him on to let them score the first?
Japhet has had nightmares in the two previous Cheatski games, just don't get it and leaving him on when he's on a yellow against Hudson Odoi who had him on toast even before the yellow.
I fudging hate Chelsea and we always seem to just fudging roll over for them.
Well same old Tottenham, massive high after Leicester and back to being laughed at by the fudging Chavs!

Hopefully Romero and Son will be back for our next game, and I'd imagine that we'll have made a couple signings and shipped 2-3 out. Our line-up will look very different in our next game

3 very winnable league games in Feb, plus Emirates Marketing Project away. Today won't decide our season

We setup not to loose this match, not to win it. Hopefully Conte learns from this. Just go for it.

Thing is it was working. The glaring issue was leaving our right flank exposed. We were stretched. But we held out and scored a (probably legit) goal. After playing more recently than them with a small squad, we had to setup like this. That said, Doherty and Sessengon looked a little lost, and did nothing as wide midfielders. I'd much prefer to see them as wing-backs where they look more comfortable.

They're a better team than us. With the players missing from the squad and starting lineup that difference is even clearer.

When they then score a wonder goal and another set piece goal there's not much Conte can do.

Would have wanted us to take off Tanganga at half time mind, him on a yellow out there was not a good look.
The issue is less the goals we conceded but the lack of real opportunities for us and how one sided the match mostly was. I admittedly saw bits and pieces of the match but what I saw we never looked particularly threatening and their goals seemed to be just one pass away imo.

Conte is a good coach and has us performing well but we have too many substandard players starting games for us. The squad stills needs massive refreshment and in some ways today's result is good because it puts those who had gone to cloud 9 after the leicester match back in cold old reality.

We need new players and quite a few in key areas if we want to once again progress and challenge for things.

The only thing I can think of was that he wanted to try his weird 6 defender approach with Doherty and Sess on the flanks, but Emerson is still carrying his injury from last week.

So, Tanganga the only option. But otherwise, struggle to see the logic in a) selecting him, and b) leaving him on after half time, the real blunder.

But we have won more games having played 2 less. It's simply doesn't stack up that they have a better squad than us. They may have some better players but overall we are the better team.

I’d argue it’s the other way, their team is better than the sum of its parts, we are certainly not.

Was it working? They were better than us in both halves.

We needed to try something different and change the pattern of defeats, but we went out with a defensive setup and inevitably we conceded. Once the 2nd one went in they killed the game off, though I dare say if they had kept at it they might have scored again. There are some excuses for the lackluster performance but for me, it never looked like we thought we would win and the players didn't seem to think they would either. Yeah they have a hex over us, but we also play into their scummy hands with our negative approach. To dare ....

Let’s judge conte vs Chelsea when he has something resembling his own team

This. As he said 'happy we fight to the end (against Watford and Leicester) but not really happy'. This team is a mess and has been since we sold Dembele. Our big games have been like watching a car crash in slow motion. I didn't watch today's game but just did not expect us to even lay a glove on Chelsea. So desperate for the unbearable inconsistency of the past three years to be over
