Verstappen has driven his way to the title. Totally outperformed his team driver - always, as has Hamilton. Verstappen has arguably had the worse car all told. The guy deserves the title. All credit to him.

F1 is ironically the winner. Far more interest and intrigue now. These guys tonking it out and the controversy is the only thing living up the sport.

The way he carved up the field at Spa-Francorchamps. Driving on the very edge for, what?, four laps. Easily topping 50mph. And in that driving rain? Makes Rush look like a flippin' learner's course video.

He hasn't driven his way to anything. He's been 'awarded' a title that the F1 boffins have totally mucked up. I wish it was otherwise because I know he has talent. Loved his run to a podium finish in Brazil a coupla seasons back. Served notice then he'd be a force to reckon with. But this title is a joke. Would be the same if Hamilton had been 'awarded' it in this manner.

Yeah.... Hamilton has never been lucky or had decisions go in his favour...

Come on, give me a break.

would you hold it against Hamilton that he’s had the best cat on the grid? As in he doesn’t deserve all the titles where he was already in a race of two because of his car?

This is the sport. Fairness is not always paramount. But Hamilton and Verstappen are clearly in their own league. A couple of other drivers might be able to compete. But they don’t have the car under them. Is that fair?

Verstappen's a good driver but he comfortably had the best car for most of this season.

The Mercedes only really caught up for the last few races - all the aero rule changes suited Red Bull this year.

Yeah this doesn't feel like new news... this is exactly how I thought it played out at the time. Stinks. I don't plan to watch F1 until they impose a better penalty system for "safety cars" i.e. if you are 37 seconds in front when the safety car comes out, you should not be back to 1 second in front. And DEFINITELY should not be 1 second in front on old tyres whilst the guy behind freely changed his tyres. That is just stupid.

That's what I don't get - with the virtual safety car the time gap stays the same, why can't that apply to the physical one? Everyone reduces speed to the same speed.

That is a choice you make. Stay out and have track position, or pit and potentially lose track position, but have fresh tyres. BUT, in my opinion, the pit lane should be closed during safety car, unless it starts to rain. Safety car rules are just fine. Its made to make races tighter and more interesting. It's tinkle boring watching if there's a minute gap between the cars. Most of the rule changes in the past 10 years have been made with the intention of making the races closer.
